So sorry to hear this news about Badsha. He was a true gentleman, a lovely man and a good friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and I send love and condolences to his family, who have lost him far too young.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Cllr Badsha Quadir passed away in the early hours of this morning. https://t.co/YKbR3HJ3Wo [1/3]

What has been missing for decades is an honest debate, without tribal ranting, of what we want and what we are prepared to pay for. And I can’t see that changing anytime soon…. 2/2

Feels like this leadership election is dodging the key issue facing the Conservative Party: you can't have Thatcher levels of taxation & Johnson levels of public spending - particularly given damage Brexit has done to economy + increased demand for public services post COVID 1/2

True you can’t have both lower taxes and higher spend long term. But if the last 20 yrs has taught us anything, it is that no matter how much extra you put in to biggest spending services, outcomes remain poor because the services themselves are structurally dysfunctional 1/2

My last tweet as a Conservative councillor in Croydon! It has been an honour and privilege to serve the people of Sanderstead for 20 years. Wishing the new ward team, residents, and new Executive Mayor @CllrJPerry good fortune in the coming years.

What can be better than hearing two little girls happily playing in your garden who 3 days ago were in Kyiv #Ukraine What a journey they’ve had, I’m humbled to be a part in their next adventure #Swindon

A big thank you to the council planning committee for refusing the dreadful proposed backland development at 34a and b Arkwright Road. Rare to see a horrible development refused in Sanderstead, but I can retire as a councillor next week knowing we did something good tonight.

Appalling to learn that the council didn’t ‘fess up to this appointment for 18 months. Straight from the Vladimir Putin songbook of truth and transparency. #croydonlive

We now have @JasonCroydonCon asking about Croydon Affordable Homes. Labour appointed a previous Labour Councillor as a director to this company, which is now leaving £73 MILLION of risk hanging over the Council. Cronyism at its finest! #CroydonLive https://t.co/iomH1aDqh6

It means they have obeyed the law. Which is not always the case! Of course a balanced budget does not = a good budget.

First question is from Mayoral Candidate @CllrJPerry, asking whether the Failing Labour Council regrets pouring money into a tangled web of subsidiary companies, that has now led to them “losing” £70 MILLION. Leader Ali’s answer - ‘no’. https://t.co/FYNdPRAQ62

Budget Council Meeting. Labour Leader Ali asked whether she regrets her financial mishandling leading to bankruptcy. She blames the auditors, "advisors", the weather, Wembley, Lords, Wimbledon, and even the Opposition! Anyone but her own party. #croydonlive

This is the second RIPI (report in the public interest) to condemn Croydon Council for slapdash and potentially illegal actions. https://t.co/WNanE7Ax6z Every bad decision taken was opposed by @croydonconservatives and our questions about the obvious overspend met with ‘untruths’

Report in the public interest into refurb of #fairfieldhalls under @CroydonLabour shows that council was well aware that costs were out of control. Whistleblowers said in 2018 that cost was > £35M over budget, which the Leader repeatedly denied (on camera)

You couldn’t maker it up. @oliverjlewis says he really wants listen more to residents on planning decisions. This from a member of the @CroydonLabour administration which has completely ignored residents’ objections hundreds of times in the last few years.#croydonlive

It seems the chickens are well and truly home to roost for @HamidaAli76 and @CroydonLabour. Resident after resident saying their decisions are dreadful and they simply don’t listen to anyone. Only six months to wait until they can be chucked out!

Superb speech from the resident lead petitioner asking the council to think again on its imposition of LTNs on residents. Reasoned argument, full of stats and facts. Pity @CroydonLabour councillors don’t show a similar interest in facts. #croydonlive
