I can’t understand why HS baseball players are playing in a select tourney in mid Jan in Tx. HS coaches can’t be too happy with their players playing right now. Also seems a little disrespectful. It’s HS baseball season - respect that. Plenty of time in the summer to play select.

Pretty sad when a coach tells a player that he can’t hit with me anymore because he’s afraid I’ll recruit him to play for one of our teams. We don’t do things that way. I don’t care who he plays for, I want to get him better. Focus more on why he would want to leave your team.

Baseball coaches, we have to be better. Players showing up in shorts, wearing headphones & flip flops must stop now. Bad & lazy look. May seem like a minor thing to some but it’s not. How you allow your players to present themselves & how your present yourself, speaks volumes.

I’ll never understand why people worry so much about Dad’s coaching their kids. “Daddy ball” gets a bad rep. Every single team I played for, out of actual HS ball, was coached by a Dad. Are there bad Dad coaches? Yes, just like there are bad select coaches…

Rec, AA, AAA, Majors, Super Elite All World-who cares.
Do they want to come back & play again next season? That’s what matters. Adults suck. Get out of the way and let the kids play!

I have been told by multiple HS players that they cannot use the cages at their own HS field outside of normal team practice times. This makes no sense to me. They want to work and get better. Do they really have to go pay for a place to hit if they want extra swings? Unreal.

Is it good for an 11u team to play 6 ⚾️ games in 1 day and all of them in row, no breaks? They played 10 games in 3 days. Yes it happened this weekend down in Houston at a PG event. Absolutely unreal that there are events out there like this.

10 yr old who said “I like this feeling” and shows me how he floats his front foot before launch. I like it. 2nd swing he said he tried to not roll his wrists. Little man is a sponge. He teaches me more than he knows. Great view to see back shin angle/quad vs hammy load.

Athletes - despite what you might hear, it is perfectly ok to take today and the rest of the weekend off from workouts. Better yet, I would highly encourage you to do just that. Go relax, be with family/friends & enjoy that time together.

The thinking has become “Don’t play Daddy ball, pay our org $2k or more for a professional coach”. I’ve seen plenty of Dad’s who can out coach a paid select coach. If you want to coach your child, go for it! After all, this is youth baseball. It’s not that serious.

Coaches: quit putting pressure on kids to perform on Saturday or they won’t play on Sunday. U r not helping. Let the kids play!

This starts at the youngest levels. Why are there select teams as early as 5u with sanctions like USSSA having tourneys for them? Why is PG/others ranking youth teams/players?
Kids aren’t taught the game or allowed to fail. The system is extremely broken, top to bottom.

Just two 8 year old teams playing a “game” sandlot style. No umps. No tournament craziness. No pressure. Nothing but playing with friends and having a blast. Love being on the field with him.
And….they got ice cream right there at the field after. This is it.

Don’t remember the wins/losses but I’ll never forget the memories made coaching this young man from 11u-HS. Made a new 1 today as he is helping me coach this wkend. Seeing a former player hangout, play w/ your kid & teach the game to your players is pretty dang cool.

Our HC paid $475 to get into a tourney this weekend, there was also a $10 gate fee/person 13 yrs old+.
Craziest part - I had to umpire in the field during the semifinal game that our team was playing in because we only had 1 ump. I paid to ump our own game.

Coaches - stop putting pressure on HS athletes to choose one sport over the other. They do not get a redo on their HS athletic careers. Let them decide what they want to do. Encourage and help them. After all, it is 100% about them & not us. Let them have fun and get after it!

Coaches - HS, select, rec - don’t care the level...remember WE are in this together for the player & the player only! This is not about us at all. We have to work together for the betterment of ALL players. One isn’t better than the other, it’s not right vs wrong. Lose the egos!

I have an 8u son. We have never talked about bunting, hitting, throwing, fielding. He swings it. He throws it. He fields it however & let’s it fly. Will there come a time to correct things? Maybe. Let kids figure it out organically. Teaching bunting is easy at older ages.

Today was freaking awesome! Our 11u guys got 10 innings of game time today, 3 hours total of field work. Families got to have the rest of the day to do whatever.

Let me be clear - I am not dogging the players. Of course, they want to play & given the chance they will play. We, as adults and coaches, have to protect them from themselves sometimes. It’s HS season. Select HS orgs in Texas don’t need to be entering tourneys right now.
