After last night's Warriors' game, I watched James Wiseman's minutes with a friend who works in basketball. Here's a thread that builds on some of the things we discussed and the interesting details he pointed out.

Siegel is really the first post-Elon/Blue Check “insider.” His visibility increased through the pay-for-engagement system and now people take him seriously as a result.

Those mad about the Cam trade need to recall what happened with Cam Reddish.

It amazes me the amount of people that don’t understand the concept of team basketball. Houston did everything in their power to get Cam to understand what he needed to do to see the floor and it didn’t happen, he was still frustrated. Even then, Houston still sent him to his.

One former Warriors’ Finals MVP was so protective of his stats that he passed up on all heaves. The other gave us a lifetime of buzzer-beating heaves, including the end-of-3rd-quarter heave that broke the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2015 WCSF. Passing up heaves is for losers.

Payton Pritchard on players who wouldn’t launch a heave because they were protecting their shooting percentages: “Soft mentally. Worrying about a shooting percentage. It’s very weak. You care about your individual shooting percentage more than winning. That’s so soft.”.

When you play on a team where Steph Curry sets back screens on centers and creates easy dunks for guys who can barely get off the court, you don’t turn your nose up at setting screens. Likewise, if your rich roommate pays more of the rent AND he cook, you can sweep a floor.

Looney gave up his body and maxed out what little athleticism he had to become the Warriors’ only reliable big. Looney will hopefully find a way to retire a Warrior. Next season, the Warriors — and specifically Steph Curry — will miss him on and off the court. This one hurts.

Looney’s rebounding in Game 6 against the Grizzlies and Game 5 against the Mavericks broke his opponents in crunch time. Looney then played a huge role in the Finals whenever Boston only had one big on the court.

In the 21-22 season, Loon didn’t miss a game, and when Wiseman’s MCL rehab stalled and Draymond Green missed two months, Loon had to carry a huge burden. He looked absolutely beat before the trade deadline, but had two legendary games in the Finals run.

After an unexpected neuropathy diagnosis that caused him to periodically lose feeling in his limbs, he remade his body and his diet to cut out certain foods and became an iron man who never missed games. When James Wiseman wasn’t playable or ready, Looney was there.

Kevon Looney was a great Warrior. As a third-year player who had recently converted to the center position, he held his own against a barrage of Chris Paul and James Harden ISO’s in the 2018 WCF against the Rockets and became the Warriors’ most reliable playoff big.

Picks are super overrated in terms of on-court value. They are most useful to teams as trade chips.

The next time a team trades five draft picks for some decent third banana non-star and everyone freaks out, I just want everyone to remember the night the Brooklyn Nets used five ACTUAL draft picks on Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf.
