This isn't a "I'm quitting social media" post but it is a PSA that I'll be peacing out here for the foreseeable future. Twitter has been an increasingly terrible place since it got bought but I've loved this bookish corner. Hope to find y'all on 🏙️. Stay well.

Could there be a more relevant week for a discussion about death of the author - or, should I say, Death of the Author by @Nnedi ? Full #bookreview here:
ringreads.com
Death of the Author has a lot to say about art, its creation, and those who make it for us that is more relevant than ever.

I'm not usually a huge fan of sequels, but Lies on the Serpent's Tongue by @katepearsall might be even better than its predecessor (which I also loved). Full #BookReview here:

Kate Pearsall’s debut, Bittersweet in the Hollow, was a solid and satisfying novel. With Lies on the Serpent’s Tongue, Pearsall delivers a strong second installment in what I hope will …

Excited to announce I'll have a wee story in the upcoming issue of Pulp Asylum. "Safe and Warm" is a creepy little flash piece that's close to my heart and I'm thrilled it's found a good home!

In which I adore roughly 95% of Rita Bullwinkel's Headshot but check to see if my pages got stuck together for the other 5%. Full #bookreview here:

Most of the boxers’ stakes in Headshot are drawn from the most ordinary of things, which gives the world inside the book more authenticity and the world outside it a reminder of its import.

Sometimes it feels like you’ll never get the spark to write again, but then all it takes is the tiniest thing: a walk through an unfamiliar street, a passage from a favorite book, a sudden rain, and you might find yourself inspired again. The words will find a way back to you.

If you ever want a little more @lorepodcast in your life, there's #CabinetofCuriositiesBook from @StMartinsPress, a collection of fun and quirky stories to entertain even the dullest elevator ride. Full #BookReview here:

Lore has a distinct style, and that same writing is present on every page of Cabinet of Curiosities, so much so that, without reading the audiobook, I still had Mahnke’s voice and delivery in…

One of the best pieces of writing advice I've ever gotten is to say not "This piece sucks" but "This is new, but it smacks of genius." The professor who forced this wisdom on me passed away this week. I will honor her by honoring my own writing, and making others do so, too

I may be late to the party, but Someone You Can Build A Nest In by @Wiswell was a perfect read for both spooky season and #aceawarenessweek! Full #bookreview here:

It’s hard to pick a favorite element in this “cozy horror.” Is it the blood and gore? The love story? The neurodivergent or asexual rep? The family trauma? Somehow, it manages to …

In my experience, the themes often develop themselves if you give them a rich enough world and characters to grow in. One of the coolest parts about writing is seeing the things you didn't know you put into your work and then making them stronger.

Red in Tooth and Claw by @LishMcBride is another great addition to spooky season that has enough depth to provide chills all year long. Full #BookReview here:

McBride’s utilization of all the elements of Weird Western really shines. From supernatural creatures to sinister humans to wild animals to the unfeeling wilds of nature, the threats are ever…
