Lucy Hallam wouldn't be alive, if not for paramedics, firefighters and most importantly, her Mum's CPR training. @ajhegarty9 #9News

Today we honour Boon Wurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Woiwurrung and Yorta Yorta senior Elder Uncle Jack Charles. He was the first Elder to appear at a formal hearing with the Yoorrook Justice Commission and encouraged other First Peoples to share their truths. https://t.co/4kLOfw2yyz

"It is no understatement to say that truth telling can be an uncomfortable, deeply exposing process, but at its core, it serves as a bedrock for change and transformation." - Commissioner @SueAnneHunter on #Yoorrook's purpose at @Swinburne's Annual Reconciliation Lecture

The lingering thought for me today is that while there is plenty of practical intra-sector work to do, the hardest work might be in how we work as a clever sector to bring in all the other diverse and powerful players needed to respond to the challenges ahead.

Working with @BOM_au teams always blows my mind. As did yesterday’s amazing interdisciplinary workshop looking at community fire safety in a plausible 2040 climate. #FireClimate2022
Three great workshops kickstarted the #Melbourne leg of #FireClimate2022 today in partnership with @BOM_au, @DELWP_Vic, @AFACnews & @NSWRFS. Looking forward to the rest of the week!

Proud to be part of @ESF_Victoria playing a role in helping the sector to be better together. To those who are in the sector and part of that wider family: we might not have heard *your* story today but we were - and are - definitely thinking of, and working hard for you.

We have a long way to go to create societies, workplaces, systems and services to help every single one of our 125,000 emergency-focused volunteers and staff across Victoria to be mentally healthy.

These amazing people all shared their stories today to remind us that in OUR emergencies and greatest times of distress, we are not aided by ‘heroes’ but by human beings. Who hurt. Who fall down. Who need our help and support, and access to expert services.

The wife of a police officer, Courtney didn’t know what signs to look out for as her husband’s mental health declined, and in hindsight knows that this information was a critical missing piece for her family, who have all been part of ongoing recovery.

Rob felt the weight of his work and the role of caring for his team so heavily that he didn’t feel he could stop, even though he knew he was really unwell. “I was emotionally and physically exhausted. I couldn’t sleep because I was scared about the next day.”

Anthony explained that “I just kept getting worse over a long period of time. I could feel myself changing.” He remembers vividly the very important moments where some people closest to him said, ‘I think you need some help’.

Interviewed by John Sylvester, Andrew told us of the cumulative impacts of life as a rural responder. As his mental health declined he reflects, “I knew I was loved but I couldn’t feel that love”. With support from his family, brigade, organisation and psych he began his recovery

Fantastic, important conversation today at the MCG about the mental health of those who work in the emergency services sector, hosted by @ESF_Victoria with the support of @HawthornFC 🧵with TW #mentalHealth #betterTogether

This stinks. I work every day with charities who have to fight year-round to fund high impact, life-changing services. Aust Gov funding $18m ‘future leaders’ program with no tender, opaque decisions, dubious governance, no staff etc.

21st birthday for the EM Conference! Early bird window open, but not for long.
As the world changes, so must we. Walking the tightrope between changing governments' and community attitudes, as a sector, we must be ready and open to change to meet these expectations @EMCConference 2022 is confirmed for Tues 5 – Wed 6 July. 🔗 https://t.co/cz2fkHNeG8

Anjali Sharma after the decision was handed down: “The federal court today may have accepted the minister’s legal arguments over ours but that does not change the minister’s moral obligation to take action on climate change.”
