I think alot of times people relate to an idea of someone rather than the person themselves. When you put someone on a pedestal, it flattens them and fixes them into a role you’ve decided they should occupy instead of allowing them to be complex, evolving, and self defining.
something i have been trying to articulate for a long time is how creepy it is when someone decides they want to be friends with you, specifically, in the specific way they want, and then chase that as a goal or entitlement instead of just letting friendships develop organically
