This is my ELEVENTH @ACFID annual conference. It’s always been a highlight of my year, but it’s especially exciting to see such a strong focus on the development-environment nexus. The theme “Healthy Planet, Healthy Communities” couldn’t be more relevant, or more urgent

The primary difference between the 2010 and 2022 floods is the intensity and geographical scope of the monsoons in 2022 which severely affected Balochistan and Sindh. Both provinces received nearly 5 times the average rainfall resulting in massive in-land flooding.

Let's be clear: the Pakistani people did not do this to Pakistan –– we all did, and the high-emitting nations are most responsible. Unless we end our species' addiction to fossil fuels, every country in the world will remain in the crosshairs of the climate breakdown.

We are launching our emergency appeal today for Pakistan. @ifrc will seek 12 million CHF to support @PRC_official to deliver shelter, cash and medicines to victims of the floods. Our teams are already on the ground delivering pre-positioned stocks and medical care.

The state of the environment report shows the list of threatened species growing as ecosystems deteriorate. The report found there was not enough funding dedicated to the environment and a lack of coordination to properly address the threats. More here: https://t.co/W9vuCymfEQ

Pacific Islands nations like Vanuatu are least responsible for climate change but are bearing its brunt. Extreme weather events are occurring with increasing frequency and ferocity. Thanks to @GinnyStein for putting this together. #earthday2022
