We are already in October, but some of our #WhiteStork fledglings are still reluctant to cross the Straits! Although named after a Portuguese island, Berlenga - unlike many famous Portuguese sailors - does not seem to be at the forefront of European overseas exploration!

After >20 years of tracking, our ringed black-tailed godwits have revealed that the autumn and winter sites used by juveniles are (nearly always) the ones they will use throughout their lives. New @AnimalEcology paper ( https://t.co/gAM3TJDqrK) and #wadertales blog:

Long-term, range-wide resightings of hundreds of colour-marked individual Black-tailed Godwits, from their first migration to adulthood show that individuals rarely change their non-breeding region...
Finally ... ... @WaderTales is back! After a 523 day hiatus, the appearance of a new Icelandic Black-tailed Godwit paper has finally spurred me into action! https://t.co/4CXpAH1vKK Link to paper: https://t.co/et78h3BRIf

We only have three small Storm-petrel chicks in the study boxes on Nólsoy at the moment, with 38 boxes having had eggs laid! Others will certainly hatch in the next week, but it’s very interesting to observe how late the season is this year. Anyone else found the same?

Nonparametric statistical methods offer powerful tools for analyzing data without making strict assumptions about the data's distribution. These methods are versatile and can be applied to various types of data, providing robust results even when traditional parametric methods

It's been a nice wader summer here at Ottenby, and >5000 have been ringed. Most adult birds have passed by now, and the juveniles are taking over - like this beautiful Broad-billed Sandpiper. #birdmigration #birdringing #birdbanding #autumnmigration #ottenby
