Yates should have declared his interest after he trained Jim Gavin - of course he should have. But these politicians are seriously precious if Yates is so far inside their head.

Jesus, politicians complaining about the 'smearing the bejesus' comment at Oireachtas cttee with Yates is unreal. Fine Gael DID go negative. Did they smear her? No, they didn't. But did they specifically go after her? Yes, yes they did.

Quite a stunning moment in the Oval Office as President Trump asserts that MBS knew nothing about Jamal Khashoggi's murder despite how the CIA — under Trump, in his first term — found that the crown prince ordered it.

The Defense Department’s new press policy led to an exodus of traditional journalists. Supporters of the president have stepped in.

Exclusive from me tonight: Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said he will fight any no-confidence motion in his leadership of Fianna Fáil, but “hopes it doesn’t come to that”. https://t.co/oidXeJrp1L

In an exclusive interview with the Irish Examiner, Micheál Martin says he 'absolutely would' contest any motion of no confidence in his leadership of the party, but 'hopes it doesn’t come to that'

The Fine Gael spin that Heather's 30pc was actually 10pc higher than what they are polling is puke inducing. They got hockeyed and treating people like they're idiots is fooling no one.

Steve Bannon insists that Donald Trump will be president again for a third term in 2028—and that America needs him to. Mr Bannon, one of the chief architects of the MAGA movement, spoke to Zanny Minton Beddoes, our editor-in-chief, and Ed Carr, our deputy editor, in Washington,

Usual caveat applies that something mental happens before next Friday and Humphreys nicks in. But at this remove, it's hard to see.

A McGuinness vs Connolly campaign would have been fascinating. What Humphreys is trying to do now with the pro-EU messaging would be what McGuinness would have done from day one and gone in much sharper against Connolly's euro-critical stance and trips to Syria etc.

There's a reason she didn't go up against McGuinness for the nomination in the first place.

Humphreys was always a limited politician. Safety first, get in and out of a Morning Ireland interview without causing damage kind of job.

The fundamental misunderstanding of FG in backing Humphreys was the thought that a rural woman who was in "every parish in Ireland" as a minister handing out freebies would translate to a strong presidential candidate. That has not proven to be the case.

Heather Humphreys has insisted that she did not know the farmer at the centre of animal abuse allegations - even though his farm is in the same village as her own farm.

Heather on Pat Kenny saying she only "glanced at the letter" and "didn't know the person" involved in the animal cruelty case. Hhhmmm. Best question now on that case is, does she regret sending that letter on given its contents?

Catherine Connolly using the privacy argument about Urusla Ní Shionnáin is completely and utterly rubbish. She wants to be president. Anyone who she employed is open for discussion and speaks to her judgement. The story is *absolutely* in the public interest.

Tl;dr Heather is running the campaign Mairead McGuinness would have run from day one.

FG likely be polling the hell out of this campaign. Heather started off as a nice woman you want for president. Now she's explicitly pro-EU, pro-enterprise, attacking Connolly over past remarks and in favour of service in the OTB. That's a significant shift over the campaign.
