#FollowtheScience faltered in #COVID19 as people struggled with hedged info on an evolving virus. For posterity, journal editors must go beyond IMRaD—demanding plain summaries so authors also write for the public, the most vital audience for their work.

A friend just shared this with me, writing: "@LSHTM ran out of Black people?" You'd think this lineup was from the past. If misinformation is about trustworthiness, then how an institution signals who gets to make sense of it says a lot about the institution's trustworthiness.

The problem with managing #infodemics is that it first allows #Misinformation to sprout and then reacts to ‘manage’ it. #GlobalHealth needs proactive strategies, esp for #vaccines. @AwaMCollSeck @gavi @UNICEF @research2policy

Many in these 3 countries (total population >1.7 billion) blindly consume turmeric believing it to be a magic healer. Gives goosebumps if you think about the enormity of the problem a benign looking natural product might be causing. @DrTomFrieden
A new study analyzed turmeric samples collected across India, Pakistan and Nepal and detected levels more than 500 times higher than the regulatory limit, an alarming finding.

Publichealth pros have to #communicate with several #audiences. Each audience requires specific tools, but few academic programs provide the much-needed #toolbox. Drop a line if you agree, share a tool if you have one. @JhcOffice @daniela_beth @research2policy

Couldn't resist sharing the parallels bw what @MaxCRoser showed with graphs and Larry Collins & Dominique Lapierre painted thru words in their book “Freedom at Midnight.” Brutal human suffering, now preventable with vaccines. @gavi @OurWorldInData @WHOSEARO

It was not only you who sniffled @sabizak many other Pakistanis were doing the same. If we see collective happiness very rarely, we cannot handle it when it comes. Let’s pray and strive for more.
Loved how absolutely cool and collected Arshad was. Here’s the ceremony if you missed it. #ArshadNadeem #medalceremony (excuse my sniffling as the national anthem starts)

The most frequent questions I get are about writing, how to write, how to keep writing, how to get better...so I wrote this little piece about writing and struggle it is for all writers. https://t.co/Tki3HHREdo

There is no ceremony or ritual that marks any person as a writer except the simple yet unimaginably significant act of starting to write.

Fighting fake news https://t.co/HP5odbvAag Fake news grows when info is withheld. Factual info curbs it but authorities are often late in its timely release, indirectly offering fuel & fire to "fakaphony." My piece in TNS today @zaighamkhan @Razarumi @cward1e @asadbeyg

We don't need more universities. We need more primary and secondary schools with well-trained teachers & proper facilities. We need more than big hospitals with imported machines. We need a network of primary healthcare clinics to attend to the needs of women & children.
