Yes, and that cast of mind is referred to as Philistinism.
There is a cast of mind that believes a rich vocabulary is just showing off. It believes in true synonyms. That there are unnecessary words. Presumably all language can be boiled down to a hundred words or so, maybe just a series of grunts.
