Thank you BBC for this report + interview on the life threatening situation facing migrants from the Horn of Africa trying to reach the Gulf. Every year thousands make this terrible journey. @UNmigration and our partners are provide life-saving assistance, support and protection.
"I trekked the desert for a month. I was without water or food for a whole week".It’s a migration story that’s little reported –but the number of people travelling through the Horn of Africa to the Arabian peninsula has risen up to 40% in the last year, according to the IOM.

“As of October, 6.9M people were displaced across DRC, a number expected to increase by 1.7M. The appeal to assist 8 million desperate people has an 84% funding gap”. This is sad. DRC is the forgotten of the forgotten humanitarian catastrophes.
Armed groups continue to exacerbate violence, causing widespread displacement and straining an already fragile context in Eastern DRC. Immediate action must be taken now to alleviate suffering and protect the lives of millions.

Sad. During my career at Al Jazeera I worked and reported from over 40 countries in Africa, and didn’t need a visa. Nigeria is one of the few African countries where Brits require a visa. This is one of the issues truly holding Africa back.
