As a national minority, the Cornish have a right to be recognised for what we are: the UK's fifth nation.

The challenge for Cornish MPs will be convincing the government that Cornwall should get higher levels of devolution without a mayor. As it stands there is nothing in the bill which allows that.
Very clear explainer on the detail behind the 340 page English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. There will be lots of analysis over the coming days and weeks, but it is safe to say that this is a huge step forward in giving power to places.

As expected, the Devolution Bill makes no mention of Cornwall or national minority status. For all their words claiming to recognise us as a special case, we’re still under threat of being forced to be run from Devon against our will. We will never accept it. We’re a nation.

So Visit Cornwall have created a survey to get views on a tourism tax, but they’re only going to ask businesses, presumably only those involved in tourism?. Why not ask Cornish residents? Afraid of what we’d say? You’ve discredited your own survey @ILoveCornwallUK

Spreading fear for clicks and ad revenue. Is this really the best we can do for local media? The decline of @CornwallLive is tragic and I can’t see how anyone working there can be proud of what they do

Glasgow is the latest destination to think tourists should help pay for the services they use. Meanwhile Cornwall continues to prioritise minority business interests than the majority of its residents.
Glasgow's new tourist tax has been given the go-ahead – with visitors to be charged on average £4.83 per night. 🗣️ 'A small contribution from tourists will mean we can invest millions more in . getting Glasgow looking good again'

I think one of the reasons BBC Cornwall keeps banging on about these trees (and cream teas) is because they know so little else about Cornish culture and heritage that they could talk about. And why mention visitors first? You’re @BBCCornwall not BBC Tourism
