As the 80th anniversary of VJ Day nears, we honour the WVS women who stood quietly behind the front lines serving tea, comfort & courage across war torn SEAC. Burma, Malaya, Palestine, Tripoli, Tobruk, Benghazi, Egypt. Their kindness reached soldiers far from home. #VJDay80 #WVS

Have you ever wandered what we were doing during #DDay ? WVS were asked to manage a special 24 hour #welfaresupport service in the dockyard for small ships and landing craft bringing men back from the beaches in France. It was all highly secret of course #LestWeForget #DDay 🪖

During #WW2 more than 1 million women joined #WVS . As #Dday approached, Women’s Voluntary Service volunteers were asked to help set up reception centres to deal with the expected large number of French refugees. @RVSHeritage #memories.

Lynda Rawlins was awarded a CO’s commendation in recognition of her exemplary efforts in enhancing her WRVS centre in Germany. This included a 24-hour area for visiting troops,with free Wi-Fi, enabling them to maintain communication with their families and friends back in the UK.

This year is the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo. The WVS base at Headcorn railway station in Kent, fed troops evacuated from #Dunkirk before they dispersed. They were so busy that a spit was installed so that meat could be roasted on the spot! @I_W_M @RVSHeritage #Veterans
