It's been a long time coming, and really proud of this study! . TL;DR, the pandemic created a new geography for restaurant success and failure in London 🇨🇦. During the first year of the pandemic, it mattered more about how you served customers than where you were located.

I am excited to be on the founding Editorial Board alongside colleagues from Canada and around the world. Think about Urban Transitions for your next manuscript, as there are no APCs on submissions made to the journal before December 31, 2026!.

Pleasure to join the NESI Podcast to discuss the connections between health and place. Geography is important for health, but an important lesson I have learned is when to "get out of the way" as a geographer and support other health disciplines in taking the lead!.

Apparently, this design does meet the Building Code standards for egress. However, when you think logically, it is a death trap. The two most common places for a house fire to start (kitchen and furnance) would block both bedrooms from any escape route!

I must be reading the Fire Code wrong about necessary egress from bedrooms. .

Potentially hot take, Jurassic World Rebirth is in the Top 3 of the franchise for me!. Campy, simple plot, retconned story but not shoehorning in a giant "secret co-founder who cloned his dead daughter" plot, comedy-horror elements, tastefully self-referential to other movies.

When you look at these in-demand sectors, the average person may think: "It's great we have been bringing in international students over the past decade, we must be catching up!". But we didn't. The very places where these skills are taught is not where these people studied.

The baffling part of the international students at Ontario community colleges boondoggle policy failure extravaganza is the province didn't direct enrollments into in-demand skilled labour programs. Instead, we graduated mostly college "business" majors with little employability!.

International students can get post-graduate work permits if they are studying for one of 900+ "labour shortage" sectors. The list includes cooks, kitchen assistants, construction workers, painters, roofers, plumbers, mechanics. Why not train and hire Canadians?

Two simple bus routes that should be in the GO Network are direct lines between Kitchener and Guelph, and Kitchener and Hamilton. Instead, you have to either go in a big U with a connection or go to Mississauga for some reason. Amateur levels of network design.

A handful of new Canada Excellence Research Chairs and hospital-based research positions only open to non-residents (looking at you, UHN) are not going to fix the structural brain drain issue in Canada. It might even make them worse.

According to the City of London, you can just use whatever population projection you want!. Minimize the tax increase? Use the lower 2022 forecast done by consultants for the City!. Need more land? Well the Ministry of Finance 2024 forecast it is!.

I am glad someone is getting into the weeds to highlight how Canada Lands Company as a Crown Agency could easily be scaled up to lead the National Housing Initiative. We don't need a new federal ministry, we just need new homes!.

We need more homes, not more government. The housing minister wants to create another costly federal agency to do what the Canada Lands Company already does. The result?  More delays, higher costs, and fewer homes.
