Man the 1992 AFL alingment looks pretty good on a map. Yeah the west could use some help, but travel wise, outside of Sac & Arizona, this looks like a fantastic map for even a modern arenaball league.

If they gain Beaumont and they're viable, the AF1 will be a nice mix of small and large markets next year. Beaumont also doesn't have the logistical island that Corpus Christi was on, as they're much closer to the Kansas teams and Nashville.

Honestly I think the IFL was too far out of reach. That league has been very clear in following an ECHL business plan since covid, and has seemingly avoided a lot of the shenanigans of the other leagues. AF1, however, I feel is far more attainable at the moment.

In fact, one of Cody's crashes helped lead to that change. IIRC didn't get hurt, but the way Bubba's car hit him, it actually exposed the pedal box of Cody's car, leaving his feet dangerously exposed if he were to get hit again.

If the pedal box looks fine, then I see no problem here. The COT chassis had to go through a massive update in the mid 2010s due to it crushing and hurting driver's feet. This led to nascar mandating that the driver's side floor and firewall be made from 1/8" steel.

Fans, you want to see this with these impacts. Notice how the center section seems seemingly unaffected? The front clip did its job absorbing the impact, instead of Cody himself. Dissipating that energy elsewhere prevents the driver become chunky marinara.
That was quite a lot of speed but the way that the front end crumpled is what you want to see in that type of situation to reduce the loads on the driver. Crumple zones are an extremely effective safety tool for race cars and street cars.

The Saturn S-Series was supposed to expand into a convertible and crossover model in the mid 90's. Eventually Saturn would get both, but they'd be more traditional GM platform-shared models and not pure Saturn models like they intended.
