Back in the booth with @BNNBroncoNation every Wednesday this fall. Always love talking ball, especially when it’s about the boys in Blue. Let’s get after it @BJRains.
First of a couple cool announcements coming in the next few weeks at @BNNBroncoNation. @WinstonVenable is back! He'll appear every Wednesday morning at 9am throughout the football season, and will appear on a few post game shows also! Pumped to have him back with BNN!

Business side of recruiting going full throttle. This isn’t your typical scholarship talk. High school athletes are now receiving rev-share contracts. For most of them, I’m guessing it’s their first contract ever. New era. New responsibilities for young athletes.
Today is the day that schools can officially send rev-share contracts to recruits in the 2026 class. They can’t be signed until relevant signing periods though (December for football). Some schools are holding off on sending to try and prevent shopping around by athletes.

The role of an Athletic Director has changed in major ways. It’s more like a combo of . AD / CEO / GM / POLITICIAN . Brands, budgets , NIL , media, and much more. There’s a whole lot going on in college athletics right now!

Former Nike CEO John Donahoe has been hired as Stanford's athletic director. He will officially start on September 8th, replacing Bernard Muir.

Collectives are getting ironed out. If it’s not for profit, it’s not NIL.
The College Sports Commission, college sports' new enforcement entity, has released new guidance around NIL collectives. Payments to athletes may be made by collectives, but they must conform to the "valid business purpose" requirements outlined in the settlement.

More changes to the college sports landscape are coming. The NCAA is voting to give the Power Four 65% control over major decisions. Players are locked into playbooks and grinding in training camp, while the business they’re a part of is shifting rapidly.
Transfer portal changes loom as the NCAA D-I Board of Directors is set to vote on a new governance model👀. (via @PeteNakos_) . Read:

This is why education and mentorship before the first deal matters. It’s not just about signing, it’s about understanding. Athletes are often the last ones to know what’s actually in their contracts. We’ve got to flip that. Great work Kristi.
I do a contract assignment in my NIL classes, and you'd be amazed how many issues students can spot in NIL contracts with only an hour-long lecture and a few reading assignments. I'm talking undergrads too, not just grad and law students. I wish we could get this kind of.

We’ve got rev-share, NIL, and the clearinghouse….But without structure and accountability, what we really have is chaos. Athletes deserve clarity and protection.
South Carolina 🏈 coach Shane Beamer expressed the thoughts many have about the new College Sports Commission. Having rules is great, but it doesn’t matter if they can’t be enforced (whether legally or practically). Will the CSC be any different than the NCAA?. We’ll see.

6 years today since Dan Paul passed. My brother. The original Hammer. Blue Collar. The ultimate Bronco. Tough as they come. The Hammer was named after him for a reason — he set the standard. I’ll never stop telling his story. #DP47

I feel for the student-athletes. The leaders of the programs don’t even know what’s going on:. “We don’t know the rules.”.“I don’t understand what rules everybody is playing by.”. Imagine being 18 and trying to figure it out.
