"Only God can join us to God, and so we must affirm that in the incarnation of the Son and actions of the Spirit God Himself is in our midst. Or rather, more wonderfully, we are in the midst of God, and the movement of relation among the three divine Persons, as it is unfolded.

"We may press theology's claim very bluntly by noting that theology, with whatever sophistication of lack thereof, claims to know the one God of all and so to know the one decisive fact about all things, so that theology must be either a universal and founding discipline or a.

"The most dangerous and damnable heresy is treating Jesus like a means to an end—political mobilization, marketing a product, financial blessing, or whatever. It doesn’t matter what the “end” is or how theologically sophisticated one is in getting there. The way of Simon Magus.

In discussions of the catholicity of the church, it’s critical to remember that catholicity is not something we achieve but something we receive as a gift in Christ. The question of how to live together faithfully in light of that gift is also critical, but the tendency to throw.

I’m not familiar with the longstanding discussion between Derek and Luke, but as a way of demonstrating the variety of views on this issue that exist within the Baptist tradition, I would point out that I actually agree with Derek on this point, which is why I, and the Baptist.

I applaud Baptists seeking catholicity & theological retrieval. But the fact remains that you cannot claim to be committed to catholicity when you rebaptize b/c you deny the *validity* of the vast majority of the baptisms throughout history & the world today. While creedal.

If you’re in a group complaining about those people and you have to ask, “Wait, what are we mad about again?” - that’s your cue to step back, clear your head, and perhaps reconsider why you’re even in that group. It's easy to adopt a group identity based on a grievance you don't.

Excellent. This is exactly how I ended my first book: that Christian martyrdom, “at odds with much of the violent pragmatism of liberal politics,” was the proper model for whatever you’d call Christian political engagement. But we keep choosing heretical nationalist variants.
