Looks like new Sec of State
@ranil
already recognises the government storm overflow reduction plan is rubbish so now asked the industry to fix it.. Shame that the Gov also forced MPs to vote away the power to force them

'Asking ______ companies...' is a standard tactic. You're seen to be 'doing something', 'getting tough' but have little choice but to accept whatever woeful plan they come up with because they know you won't legislate or regulate - result!!

Two words “Enforcement orders”.
There never was and there still isn’t any need for this pantomime, Gov have had the power since 1991 to force water companies to do exactly what they want them to do, hasn’t anyone explained that to the new SoS yet?

Then legislate as this scandal will be yet another reason why the conservatives will lose the next election! Is this the legacy they want?

Fine them per litre of untreated raw sewage that enters our once clean waterways,that should help focus their attention on problem solving.

Unless it is more expensive to dump sewage in our inland waterways & coastal waters than to invest in sufficient sewerage facilities the water monopolies will continue to do it.

Significant immediate improvements that could be made but no Water Utilities or no Government bodies taking the time to listen. Solutions that are so simple and at costs that are lower by far than current methods used.
