I’m confused, should I keep paying for my ChatGPT Plus plan or cancel it? 🤷‍♂️.

Figuring out whether to start or continue a project?. Would you STILL do it if you KNEW it'd fail? If so, it could actually be more likely to succeed. @tferriss reposted a podcast from an interview with Seth Godin where he talks about this, 3 min clip:

Unpopular opinion: The only pricing model that makes sense for agency/consulting work is hourly billing. Never charge fixed prices. Never create a 'productized service'. Here's why. .

Filter out clients who demand fixed prices. Only work with clients who agree to hourly billing (or weekly, or per sprint). As long as your clients sticks around (and they will if you deliver quality), you can rest easy because all your projects are GUARANTEED to be profitable.

If you try and cut corners and make sales 'easier' by offering fixed prices, you break the proven model and start getting into project-by-project speculation, which for a complicated service like software development, almost always means less profit (and often losses) 😢.

What possible advantage does fixed price quoting give you? The agency model is simple, proven and works: billable hours. Once you're past the word-of-mouth hump, an agency can be a cash cow business that prints profit for every hour an employee/contractor works.

You'll be constantly micro-managing the project delivery and having lots of uncomfortable conversations as your costs start creeping closer and closer to your sale price. You'll be tempted to cut more and more corners and adding lots of technical debt along the way.

It seems obvious. a new client needs to trust you, so why not offer a fixed price quote for a set deliverable? Because unless you've delivered the EXACT same thing, hundreds of times, or you have a prophetic gift 🧙‍♂️, fixed price projects NEVER end well.
