I'm gone! Amsterdam - Dubai by train, bus and ferry. In 10 days I'll try to cross 9 countries and the Persian Gulf to speak at
@expo2020dubai
.
Looking forward to my trip. Love slow travel, meeting new people and seeing the scenery gradually change.
Just jumped off the Mauritanian Iron Ore train and what an epic ride it’s been. It all started two weeks ago with my Interrail adventure from the Netherlands, a journey that now seems worlds away compared to the raw and rugged experience I've just had.
Preparing the return home Dubai - Amsterdam. Completely without flying. Majority by train, some parts by bus. Iran has some beautiful train rides, unfortunately they were mostly sold out.
This time will do Istanbul - Bucharest by train instead of the bus.
I MADE IT!
Driving with an electric car from Amsterdam to Sydney! Finished just now at the
@RBGSydney
and wow so proud!
With my trip I wanted to proof the viability of EV's but the thing I would remember the most is the kindness I received from people all over the world! Wow!
Exactly 2 weeks left until I start my new adventure: Amsterdam to Africa by train.
The highlight of the journey: riding on the legendary Mauritanian Iron Ore Train. A 22-hour ride on top of a carriage straight through the Sahara.
Next month I will travel to the UAE... by train!
I'm there to speak about my Sustainable Adventure so flying makes no sense. Also I want to make a statement that if we want to save the climate, we need to make radical choices. Ironically, fewer emissions = more travel! Let's go!
After 1.222 days, 100.450 kilometres and 34 countries I reached the end! The end of the world and the end of my journey.
This signpost marks NZ's most southern point Bluff and that's as far as you can go by car. Proud that I made it, sad it's over but excited about the future.
This is rather hilarious. Dodge promoting their Challenger as the fastest 0-100 mph production car in the world but the small letters read "excluding electric vehicles". Even marketers at traditional OEM's don't know anymore what their cars' unique selling points are.

For almost 2 years I have been living an unbelievable and crazy dream. I'm driving from the Netherlands to Australia in an electric car.
In 687 days I saw 31 countries and drove 60.000km without visiting a gas station!
Can you help me reach the other side of the world?
Günaydın Istanbul! Do I need to say more?
I reached the city around 6 this morning. Got me a chai and pide and rushed to the Bosphorus to see the sunset. Behind me is the bridge that connects to Asia. Quite unbelievable that within 48 hours I reached Asia from Amsterdam, by land
Warriors, we made it!
827 days, 66.000 km, 33 countries and millions of stories. Today I finally reached Australia, coming from the Netherlands in an Electric Car!
Super excited and proud that I made it to the other side of the world in an

. Now let's get to Sydney!
Arrived in Perth today! I'm very proud to show that it is also possible to reach the world's most isolated city in an electric car.
And that you can drive from the Netherlands to the other side of the world without visiting a fuel station but that's old news isn't it?
#PlugMeIn
Today 2 years ago I left Holland with my electric car, destination: Australia. My route being determined by my followers which made me zigzag through 31 countries and driving 60.000k without visiting a fuel station. Thanks everyone who made this life-changing experience possible!
This is the route I did so far in an electric car through Australia. 14,000 km, a couple of days, heaps of fun and zero drops of fuel used.
Finishing in Sydney in a few weeks. A bit sad but what a ride it was.
Day 17. I'm home!
When I left early January I had no idea that this train journey would become an epic adventure. I had fun sharing my daily stories with you and am very grateful for all the positive responses I have been receiving here. Now I'm gonna take a nap.
Day 8. And then you’re suddenly in Kurdish Iraq. Although it was my plan B, I haven’t done any research about the countries on this route. I’m having a good time discovering Erbil’s culture and city itself.
Made it to Abu Dhabi all the way by land from the Netherlands! Super proud that I came so far! What an adventure.
I came here to speak at
@ADSWagenda
. Today the ADSW Summit is happening and you can attend virtually through this link:
The only limit is your own imagination!
961 days ago I started driving from Holland to Sydney in an Electric Car, without money but 'fuelled' by the kindness of people around the world. Today I reached Uluru and hope to have shown a bit that there are no limits on EV's too!
I’ve reached home. The most beautiful station of the Netherlands, Haarlem. It was a pleasure to share my journey with you and thank you for all the replies. Again im amazed how interested people are in following someone sitting on a train. Going in winter sleep now. Thank you!
I made it!
Been trying to reach Australia for 807 days and today I reached Darwin! I drove from Holland to the other side of the world in an electric car 💪
The Blue Bandit hasn't arrived yet but I couldn't wish for a better pick-up as in
@outbacktesla

HNY!
I'm starting 2024 with a new adventure: taking the train from Netherlands to Mauritania to hop on the Iron Ore train, a long ride straight through the Sahara. With my
@Interrail
pass in hand I will travel through southern Europe and Morocco.

#GoOneStopFurther
This is the route that will take me to Dubai. It'll be an adventure for sure. Iran is closed right now and if it doesn't open on time I need to find another way.
Today's first task is to reach Vienna. Just one short stop in Frankfurt.
Just crossed the Tropic of Capricorn 💪
I already crossed the Arctic Circle, the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator. All on one trip and with an Electric Car coming from the Netherlands. Distance between each line: 5185,9 km.
Now explain me what is Range Anxiety?

Good morning from the Dacia Express. This is the day 2 thread!
Had a decent sleep although two times interrupted by police who came in to check passports and the train stopped a few times.
The best part was waking up: love to stare outside and see the cloudy landscape pass by.
Day 1. Time to go home. Dubai - Amsterdam by public transport.
It’s 06.52 and today I will take the ferry to Bandar Lengeh.
The whole journey can be done in 7 days. I want to explore cultures, meet people and enjoy the ride. I’m doing it in 17 days.
Got my
@Interrail
pass ready for a new train journey. After travelling to Asia (Dubai) it's time for Africa. I will head all the way to Mauritania to hop on the infamous Iron Ore train. A wild ride on top of a carriage for 20 hours through the Sahara desert. Can't wait!
Wowww! Words can't describe how I feel right now! Sunday was so incredible. Everything was perfect. About 50 electric cars showed up to guide me to the finish line and when I crossed the finish here was a huge crowd and the celebration was so good. Thanks everyone who came down!
Day 10. I’m in amazing Erbil, Kurdistan.
I start the day with a visit to the hospital to take a PCR test for Jordan. My flight is tomorrow morning at 5.
Day 11. In my original plan, I would arrive in Dubai on day 10. I prepared less for plan B, meaning from today I have to wear my underwear inside out. Yes, you're getting all the details.
Now getting ready for the bus Amman - Hail (Saudi Arabia). Step for step I'm getting there.
Today I am celebrating 3 years on the road!
Driving an

Day 16. Arrived in Vienna by train from Bucharest via Budapest. I have 7 hours to spend in this pretty city but my energy is very low. Looking forward to my own bed tomorrow.
Within a few hours the landscape completely changed to snow. It’s incredible. I took loads of photos which I’m going to share with you later but need to edit them and right now Im not going to waste even a second looking at my laptop screen. It’s just breathtaking looking outside
I calculated the emissions and costs of my journey by public transport from Dubai to Amsterdam.
Compared to a non-stop flight my emissions were 65% lower and the costs were nearly the same.
However, the flight didn't include the epic adventure and enriching experience that I had
Extremely excited to announce that my story is exhibited at Volkswagen's

Museum!
I never dared to dream that this would happen but it did. Photos, videos, objects and of course the Blue Bandit are in the ZeitHaus and tell all aspects of my 1222 day journey.
So proud!
Day 7. I’m wearing thermal underwear. Suat is bringing me from Dogubeyazit to the border. I’ve been in Dogu before, and had some problems here, on my way to Australia by EV. Suat already helped me back then. Let’s see if we can enter Iran today. It think my chance is 5%.
Funny, the girl who sold my ticket yesterday just came to me to thank me. Apparently she was on trial and her manager saw her speaking English with me yesterday and that got her the job.
Just spotted the Volkswagen ID.3 in Queenstown, New Zealand.
A few German blokes are running some tests here in the area but couldn't say anything. Dashboard and some exterior parts were covered.
Cool to have 3 electric VW LHD next to each other.

Went to see the world's first solar train. In Byron Bay they converted a 1948 diesel train to electric. The 80 kWh Lithium-ion battery is charged by 92 solar panels on the roof and on the shed. Enough power for 12-15 runs. Completely on Solar!
Video later on my channel.
Goodbye Australia! That was a lot of fun!
Landed in Darwin on May 30 last year. Didn't even realise I already spend nearly a year here. Just not enough time to witness 3 different PM's.
Thanks everyone who helped me out down under! Australia will be a big chapter in my book!
Made a hotspot with a costumer at the fuel station. Ordered a Uber and reached Abu Dhabi! I made it. Fancy hotel is arranged by WFES where I’m speaking tomorrow. Nice to have a bit more luxury. Going for breakfast buffet now.
Goodbye New Zealand! And goodbye world. This will be the last photo of the Blue Bandit and me together on this trip. She's going back to Europe on her own. It'll take 47 days what took us 1222 days. Not jealous at all. What an adventure it was!
See you on the other side.
Had a look at Port Augusta’s solar farm. Couldn’t fit the whole farm in the picture and the construction is not even completed!
When done the Bungala solar project will provide 300MW, powering 80.000 households in South Australia.
Finally I started the New Zealand roadtrip! I left the Blue Bandit behind and going for a week around the Coromandel in the all-electric

120km range and and with NZ's fast-charging network this promises to be a lot of fun! Seats left so feel free to join!
Today 1000 days ago I started my journey which later turned out to be a trip of a lifetime. Driving from Amsterdam to Sydney in an electric car.
Many lessons learned and very grateful for this experience.
Big huge thanks to all the people who helped me out on the way!

Day 5. I’m in Ankara and just did a PCR test for Iran. It’s one of the challenges of travelling in these times.
Now I have some time to see the city. At 17.55 I’m taking the Dogu Express to Erzurum. I think this will be one of the highlights of the trip.
Day 2. Had a good night of sleep. Continuing the journey. Taking the train at 8.35 to Antequera. From there a short ride to Algeciras and then I have only a few minutes to find the bus to Tarifa from where my ferry to Tangier leaves. Should be in Morocco before midnight.
Day 14. My hotel offered a late check out. I took some quality time for myself and prepared my talk. It’s only 2 days until I’m speaking at ADSW. There is no public transport in Riyadh. You really need a car here. I walked around in my area. Can really enjoy Arabian architecture
Anyone can hop on for free. Just go to the starting point (there’s no station) and wait until the train arrives, somewhere between 11am and 6pm. The train is a lifeline, used by locals to transport goods, themselves, and even goats.
For the very last time the route and stats of my journey. No, I didn't get lost and my compass was working just fine. The route was determined by people who signed up on my website, meanwhile taking my time to promote EV, engage with sustainable initiatives and explore the world.
I’m going to wrap it up for today. New long day tomorrow. Thanks everyone for massively following and responding. I didn’t expect it would be so exciting for people to see someone sit on a train.
New thread tomorrow 🚊
Arrived in Dubai today. Got sick last night. Probably the stress from the trip that’s released now I’ve reached my destination. Going offline to recharge for a few days.
It’s over. Dropped the Blue Bandit off at the warehouse and she’s already on the way to Europe.
It feels so weird. For 3 years it has been my life to explore the World with BB. All done now. On to new adventures.
I left NZ too and now at undisclosed location to plug out.
Really wanted to go to MT Cook. Contacted the local YHA if it was Oke to plug into domestic socket. They replied that they installed EV charger just that day and they offered me 2 nights in their hostel 👌 look at that view 😲
Mark the date: Sunday the 7th of April, after 1119 days there will come an end to my journey.
I invite you all to celebrate my arrival to Sydney to show the world what electric mobility is capable of.
Location and time will follow.

Here’s my new plan. I’m now on a bus to Iraq. From there I fly to Jordan. From Amman I can continue by land to Saudi Arabia. Catch a train and eventually arrive in Abu Dhabi by bus.
This involves flying as by land was not possible anymore. I’ve chosen the shortest air route.
In 10 days I will reach Australia. Already 293 people offered energy.
The challenge: 99% of them live in the bigger cities and distances are huge. To reach Sydney I'm looking for people who live between the cities who can

This EV Campervan road trip has been a joy so far. In New Zealand you can find a fast charger every 70km on 90% of the highway network! I don't know the stats but NZ must be one of the leading countries when it comes to DC charging. Good job
@ChargeNetNZ
In Mauritania, iron ore is a lifeline, accounting for half of the nation's exports. Every day 3 of these colossal trains leave from the mining town Zouerat to the port of Nouadhibou.
When I heard about this train I wanted to ride on it. It's something different, I love travelling through deserts, I needed to overcome fears, the journey to the train attracted me, the adventure itself and exploring a new country and culture. Perfect trip.
Thursday morning I took a minivan from Nouadhibou to Dakhla, arrived in Dakhla around 4. Had dinner and took a 24 hour bus to Marrakech. Very exhausting.
After a short night of sleep I’m taking the train and travelling from Marrakech to Marbella 🇪🇸 in 1 day.
Day 8. I’m leaving Tehran. Had a great time here, saw a lot of old friends. Now at the subway station on the way to the train. Finally a train. I’m with
@Soheilsia
, he will ride with me to Tabriz.
"World's longest electric car journey ends in New Zealand"
TVNZ came down to Bluff to drive the final meters with me. It took me 1,222 days and 100,450 km through 34 countries to get to the other side of the world.
I never expected that so many people would get so excited to see me sitting on a seat on a train.
Very happy with all the support and response im receiving!
If you aren't following along watching

travel from Europe to Dubai over land using sustainable transport options, then you should be. It's the best vicarious adventure on twitter.
After a 991 day long
#ElectricAdventure
which started in 🇳🇱 I reached Brisbane with the Blue Bandit! Just a few more stops until the final destination. When I get to Sydney I crossed 33 countries in an electric car and hoping to have shown the advantages of sustainable mobility.
Day 11. Going back to Ankara on the Dogu Expressi. I don’t mind doing this 22 hour ride for a 2nd time at all. There has been fresh snow the past days so the sights might be even better.
Super excited to announce that I ended up in New Zealand! A few local companies have made this possible. Today I picked up BB at
@AucklandsPort
who helped to get us here.
Very excited about the upcoming roadtrip to NZ! Now I really really made it to the other side of the world!
Super happy I made it to Iran after all. On the first leg the border was closed due to Omicron so I had to divert. Now it’s open and as I don’t have a near deadline to get somewhere I can stay even longer as originally planned. Double winning because Iran is amazing! 🇮🇷
The past days I was exploring Mauritania and went to places without internet so couldn’t update you much.
Yesterday I went deep into the desert and guess what? I found the location where they shot the Lion King movie.
The journey of 704km takes 17 hours and the trains are huge. They can be up to 3km in length and each train carries 17,000 tons of ore, enough to build an Eiffel Tower. Making them among the longest and heaviest trains in the world.
Day 7. Leaving Marrakech today. It’ll get more challenging. No more passenger trains from here. Trying to make my way to Mauritania by coaches and local busses.
Later I’m taking a coach to Dakhla which will take 24 hours and passes through the Western Sahara. But first lunch.
Oké bad luck. Iran is still closed for tourists. It’s not a shock, as the omicron case didn’t improve over the past weeks I expected this. I anticipated this and have a plan B but need to double check if on that route nothing changed. Will announce new plans asap.
Spotted a mouse in my living room. Closed all doors and chased him for ages. Eventually caught him with a bucket after an hour or so. Put him in a bag, biked 10 mins and the moment I released him 2 birds appear and grabbed him.
I don’t know what life tried to teach me here.
