Failure breeds perseverance. If you’re not equipping these kids on how to handle failure in a healthy manner, they will be in for a rude awakening when they are done with sports and school. What will they have left? A sad story of “I coulda”. And we’ve all heard those before.

Too many coaches wanna be friends and not mentors. Stop giving these kids bad examples of preventing failure. It’s always “blame the coach” but never “work harder”. This is why this generation is soft.

Reminder to adults: Stop taking everything these kids are saying as facts. You allowing a teenager to dictate how you feel about another adult without a conversation is mad. We are in the “big age” category so please stop letting these high schoolers have that much pull.

Was talkin to one of my players about life and he goes “why does everything always go back to you talkin about basketball” and I’m like because the amount of lessons I learned from it really became the foundation of how I approach life. Sports are so much bigger than you think!.

My players think they soooooo funny lol.

So many people can’t guard one on one. And it’s evident. Where is your pride tho? Where is the competitive nature? A lot of excuses get made but at the end of the day….do you just like to play or do you like to compete?!?.

Where are the kids that hate looking like defense dummies? Everyone wants to score but not everyone wants to defend. Where is the competition? Where do kids compete?!!.

This is why I miss my era and beyond of hoop. You literally had defensive demons in the nba…cousins do much else besides guard and it was PHENOMENAL to watch.

Unfortunately a lot of kids just like to play. They don’t spend time working on their weaknesses. Everyone warms up shooting at the 3 point line. And the norm is being great on offensive but get scored on just as much as you put up. What is the point of that?.

So like I said, being someone who plays because they love the game is way different than someone who loves to compete….and now as a coach, I can SEE it in everyone I coach.

But in any sport, my main goal is just to win. Even now, you challenge me to anything, I will act like I got it in the bag because I’m a natural competitor. Lol and if I feel.Like I’m not good, I will study and practice enough to be good enough to compete!.

I LOVE basketball no doubt but I will say I love competing more. I’m naturally athletic so any sport I put my mind to, I was good at. But I had to decide between soccer and basketball and I chose hoop. So progressively that’s what I got good at.
