At first I thought it was a joke, but turns out this really is a mask of a Mayan god Camazotz who was literally a bat god of death and is a big part of mesoamerican mythology - na na na na na, Mayan God

First day in many years that I'm genuinely sad. I have extended family in both countries and the one in Russia vehemently refuses to believe the one in Ukraine is under attack and are in hiding. Russian TV literally playing a comedy on air at this time.
making a video about the China's FAST unusual signal detection right now and realized that there are SO MANY photos of Chinese tourists taking smartphone photos of the telescope literally next to it. It was supposed to have a 5km no radio interference area around it...
One of many ironic injustices of this war is that the ballistic missiles hitting the cities in Ukraine all come from the original designs (R-1 to R-7) by Sergey Korolev - the Soviet Ukrainian rocket engineer born in Zhytomir, same guy who put Gagarin to space
My father in law is 66 years old. He spent years trying to become the first out of his 7 brothers to get a college degree. Pretty crazy determination but here he is. He finally did it. Lesson being it's never too late.
Apparently North Korea launched a missile at an ocean recently and literally nobody cared. Kim jong Un trying to stay relevant saying he used to be the cool dictator too.
Also he seems to really hate oceans
Only about 12 people unsubscribed from the recent video that mentions climate change and melting of sea ice. I don't know about you but I call that progress. It used to be 1000s before.
You're never just a number to me, but this is such an insane achievement.
Who would have thought there would be 400 000 people interested in listening to scientific rants by an accented 30 something year old.
I love you all!
You are all wonderful!!!
This is

Btw the word Ukraine means The Borderlands. Why would you want to mess with a place like that? It's like naming your country 'The Hood'. You know people going in with guns are gonna get hurt real bad.
This is how our brains wobble with each heartbeat! Your brain is literally doing it as you're watching this image

Hello wonderful person!
hours of reading to make a single line command that auto-downloaded all of the videos, extracted first second of each and combined them all into a single video. I was almost tempted to do this for the entire collection.
Took 3 days to make this, it's probably going to be the most disliked and unsubscribed from video, featuring
@nadiamdrake
and
@MickWest
to some extent and obviously talking about
#ufo
and
#aliens
and a lot and a lot of psychology
gonna go sleep now
Finland’s Prime Minister
@MarinSanna
is in the headlines after a video of her partying was leaked today.
She has previously been criticized for attending too many music festivals & spending too much on partying instead of ruling.
The critics say it’s not fitting for a PM.

Day 1 of hotel life begins! It's going to be a crazy month. Ironically the month of hotel is cheaper than my rent. It dropped to 25 percent of original price.
The funny thing about Korean Xmas is that it's hard to find chubby people here so every year Korean Santa looks like he's been exercising. Cracks me up every time.
Happy Weekend! While everyone goes to the beach I went for a tour of the largest nuclear plant in Korea (also by the beach). It was epic. Finally got a use out of my Geiger counter. PS way safer than I even imagined. Video maybe one day (can't film inside)
So, just turned 500 000. Thank you for all the support over the years. Trying to organize a short stream where we explore planets and stuff around 11:30pm EST. Things might break thouigh as I forgot how to stream.
Korean buffet places often have awkward English translations for food but this just takes the cake.
Also makes me reflect on my life choices
PS the actual dish is abalone porridge.
Major gravitational wave announcement coming soon! Let's hope it's something cool like colliding super massive black holes or background waves from some insane events.
Very excited to share that not only is
@NANOGrav
making a Big Announcement June 29th, but so is the
@EPTAGW
,
@InPTA_GW
, and the Parkes PTA(

) !!
This has actually been a coordinated global campaign and we are thrilled to share our results June 29th.
Soviet Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev was inside the Mir station when USSR fell in 1991. He was stuck stateless and had no where to return 1992, after 10 months in orbit. When he returned, his home town was renamed, the country was smaller and everything else changed dramatically too.
Living in Korea means that sometimes on the way back home you find amazing stuff people dump in the electronics recycling area that as a geek you totally have to have. Now I need a matching pink nintendo ds.
I think I found about 10 studies from the last 3 years that came up with various techniques and could probably use that money :D Here's just one of them

The Hybrid Air Vehicles Airlander 10 is a helium airship with auxiliary wing and tail surfaces, it flies using both aerostatic and aerodynamic lift and is powered by four diesel engine-driven ducted propellers.
Talked to some of the *normal* Russian family I have about what's happening with mobilization
They told me, there's often no announcement or notice. Police comes in at night, picks up the male members eligible for service, leaves women crying alone
Simon Aboumerhi sent me an amazing picture of himself in Wonderful Person tee AND the Neowise 2020 comet. I'm sort of jelly because I never got to see it due to rain season in Asia :/ Congratulations Simon!
Just lived through heaviest rain ever. 142 milimiters per hour. The clouds were ominously dark and day turned to night. Probably will get worse in a few years though so need a new massive umbrella ☔
Earth has one known Trojan asteroid, 2010 TK7. But newly-discovered 2020 XL5 is a good candidate as it librates around Earth's L4 point, and will continue to do so for thousands of years.
Want to feel wonderful every day? Now you can! Sort of...
First ever "Wonderful Person" design is out and you can get your own here:
I made sure to double check the quality by ordering this myself and it's surprisingly good.
Stay wonderful!
Everybody and I mean everybody in the social media streams right now is basically this guy...
I think I'm going to social media distance myself for a few weeks to keep sane:D

This tiny shrimp better known as krill has been recently found to be an essential part to carbon control on Earth - they poop out 12 billion tons of carbon every year decreasing global co2 levels.
tl;dr their poop helps prevent climate change
Happy holidays everyone!
I might be away for a few days for family reasons and some of the videos will be a bit different again, but will be back in a few days time
To celebrate the cool space way, here's a Dione and Rhea snowman! Taken by Cassini in a lucky perspective moment.
TOMORROW Jupiter and Saturn will be at their closest separation in the sky since 1623 at 0.1° apart. Here's an animation showing exactly how close that is relative to a familiar object, the Moon! (Moon ONLY added to illustrate the scale)

I'm so tempted to build a huge home made radio antenna to try to look for pulsars in the skies, but I live near a military base and in a very strict country where I'm afraid they're just not going to take some "Petrov" looking for pulsars as a valid explanation

Psychological bias of connecting two unrelated phenomena and believing there is a connection is called apophenia. It's responsible for a lot of issues in human behavior unfortunately.
This revision to the headline from the NYT is a simplistic truism. You can't rule out aliens. You can't rule out fairies either. The key finding here is that there's no evidence for either.
