How do lipids control cancer stem cells? In this @ScienceAdvances paper led by @Jihong_Cui, we found high levels of ABCA12 lipid transporter in breast CSCs reduce intracellular ceramide to activate the YAP/TAZ-SOX9 stemness program and chemoresistance.

CSCs maintain stemness and enhance chemoresistance via the ABCA12-mediated expulsion of ceramide lipids that inhibit YAP-SOX9.

I started my scientific training with Filippo. It’s so sad that he left us far too early. R. I.P., Filippo.
Truly disheartened by the passing of another giant in #CancerMetastasis Filippo Giancotti. Thanks Filippo, it’s been an honor to know you and learn from you @Giancotti_Lab
