On this day in 22nd July 1661 Samuel Pepys visited Biggleswade: "the day proves very cold, so that having put on no stockings but thread ones under my boots, I was fain at Bigglesworth to buy a pair of coarse woollen ones, and put them on." I mosaic marks the occasion in town!

In the last episode of Weird in the Wade I mention that there was a Romano Celtic temple below Galley Hill and the Green Sand Ridge. Well this is where it was, over the Potton Brook which feeds info the river Ivel.

There’s two of them marked on Furzenhall Rd from the 1880s map until the 1970s where the mention of stones disappear? .Is it likely to have just been a couple of big rocks? .@OrdnanceSurvey Thanks for your help!.

Still poorly with this bout of Covid, but well enough to share this lovely episode of Gone Fishing. Bob and Paul are on the Great Ouse in Bedfordshire. The river features in a few witw episodes (Black Tom, Mother and Mary Sutton, the Phantom Army.).

I might not be posting on the socials for a bit as I’ve got covid and being feverish in a heatwave is not fun. But it’s my third time round with Covid and my last vaccination was 8 months ago, so I’m hoping it’s a swift dose. Wild flowers to cheer us up!

I must confess I am not a fan of hot weather. Anything above 28C (82F) is just too hot for me. It always leaves me a little out of sorts. So here are some shady pictures from my visit to Bedford on Monday. Stay cool and hydrated everyone!

Yes I was in Bedford today having an exciting meeting, more info on that tomorrow. But the steps in the photo I shared earlier lead to Bedford Castle Mound.
