I mean, I like it a lot. But we truly do be monke with big stick wary of weird power.

Given the expansive vastness of possible settings, it's surprising the success of a more or less standardized fantasy with fighters and wizards and monsters and pointy ears.

My wife’s constructed language, Toki Pona, has been recognised by the ISO as a world language with its own code. I’m so damn proud.

I don't understand why people keep coming up with new spicy sauces when we have sriracha already.

A few rough weeks. Slowly going back to my shenanigans. I bought Mausritter, as a treat.

Non-OSR rpg idea: tinder date rpg. 1: Generate profiles with a dice drop. Swipe and roll for a match when you find something interesting. 2: Try to secure a date through chat. 3: Play the actual date. With random tables and a point system. Two players or the whole party vs GM.

A bit like the wild west bounty system, just the bounty is whatever you can get from the target, no questions asked. Of course showing an adventuring letter eases pass through domains, tolls and avoiding too much questioning or conscription to some degree.

That might work as a diegetic explanation for the 1% of XP tax proposed as character upkeep. And could also serve the function of a higher tier "tavern bulletin board" - instead of local quests for pay, rulers point the guild for convenient threats and hint at their treasure.

It's not unreasonable that your civilized settings issue some "adventuring letter" to deal with this. A bit of paperwork recognizing these special licenses to a registered adventuring party, for a small fee. Possibly an adventurer's guild is on the table too.

What I'm saying is that "adventurer", in the stock fantasy setting, isn't just a word for anyone going on an adventure. It's probably more akin to "privateer", but on land. A group of independent marauders that are recognized some dispenses as long as they target the right foes.

But it's not reasonable to assume the forces of law are just OK with anybody going vigilante. That would be a bit of a chaos. There has to be some kind of more or less implicit accord. But it's hard to manage without at least some established agreement.

They're not technically mercenaries either, there is no contract and no specific goal. They do it for their own motives and the loot they get. The treasure is in the lord's claimed land, but it's convenient to have some adventurers cleaning up the lands for you so it's mostly ok.

So, what adventurers do technically is not legal right?. A group of armed people raiding temples and camps, driving by people and taking loot. They're mostly cultists and bandits yeah, but it's unsanctioned use of violence. Lords just look the other way because it's convenient.
