The Haw River in Byrum is now in Major Flood stage is forecasted to rise near the record crest that Hurricane Fran set back in 1996. Sometime tomorrow morning the river is forecasted to rise to a crest of 21.2 feet. The record crest is 21.8 feet back in 1996. #ncwx #Chantal

Going to take all day to moisten the column at KRDU, but we should get there by the evening. Greensboro and points west are much more uncertain w.r.t. the dry air and snow reaching the ground
Some optimism for snow in Central NC has grown overnight. Main concern is dry air, just check out the sounding at 00z from GSO (closest to RDU). So dry, it's off the charts at ~750 mb level. We will need to see how the 12z sounding compares to get a gauge on how early snow falls.
