Speaking from the university’s astrophysics lab, AMU President Eric Berton likened the situation to that of European academics who fled persecution by Nazi Germany. “What is at play here today is not unrelated to another dark period of our history,” he said.

The DST wasn’t going to be popular in Canada and new PM Carney can blame it on his predecessor and wash his hands of it, giving Trump a win the president can claim that doesn’t cost Caanda much. Or Canada blinked. Who knows?.

Interesting, from Canada’s finance minister. Canada had been set to impose a digital service tax on (mainly U.S.) foreign service providers. Trump broke off trade talks, citing this. Canada backed down at once. Unclear if this is a capitulation or unfolding Canadian strategy.

Canada is engaged in complex negotiations on a new economic and security partnership with the U.S. Rescinding the DST will allow the negotiations to make vital progress and reinforce our work to create jobs and build prosperity for all Canadians. đź”—
