The best example being Rene Levesque. Quebec nationalism is an extremely volatile force; one of the most volatile we have. But Levesque had seen Europe's camps firsthand and abhorred political violence.
Not a coincidence that this is all happening just as we lose our last Second World War veterans. When universities and civil service departments were run by men who had physically seen bodies stacked up, they were much more intolerant of those who saw it as glamourous.
