The joy at finding water vole poo for your "Whose Poo" game ready for Open Farm Sunday. Several thousand expected to visit here on Sunday, where they can learn not only about farming but also the extensive conservation work we do. Recovery and re-introductions.

The water has FINALLY dropped enough to access our best redshank site, with the redshank champion himself @RupertBrewer2! The nests have a 2 inch layer of dry grass in them to keep the eggs nice and dry, what a fantastic species! #conservation

This lapwing was tagged as part of our new Fallow Plot study. It was a retrap, ringed as a chick by @RyanABurrell during his PhD on lapwing back in 2019, on the same plot. The data will help us improve arable nesting lapwing options as part of this @NaturalEngland funded study.

☀️ The sun was shining and several rare birds paid a visit as a group of farmers, land managers, rangers and ecologists gathered to get inspiration from the success of the GWCT's wader conservation work in the Avon Valley #workingforwildlife @WadersForReal

Always brilliant to get sightings of Avon Valley breeding redshank outside the breeding season. This one hasn’t gone too far!

Our Avon Valley redshank have almost all finished breeding and are heading off to their coastal summer grounds. Please keep a look out for colour ringed birds especially around the Hampshire coast, every sighting is hugely valuable to the project! #ornithology

It was a bit of a soggy start but it was a great day at open farm Sunday yesterday, we spoke to so many people about wader #conservation, predator management and #farming. The kids loved having a go at looking for lapwing in the hide! #LOFS23

REDSHANK ALERT! A Redshank is not ... ... as charismatic as a #Curlew ... ... as lush as a #Lapwing or ... ... as graceful as a #Greenshank ... BUT next time you see one, please spare it a second glance - and thought. The species is in trouble - thread 1/11 #ornithology

Look at all those wader footprints! At least 2 pairs of lapwing and 2 pairs of redshank with chicks using this scrape, protected by an electric fence and with the removal of crows they have a pretty good chance at success! #conservation

The #NewForest is a key breeding grounds for rare #GroundNestingBirds 🐣 We are following their story this year with Lee, one of our Keepers who support wildlife in the Forest. He tells us about the birds & the species he's already spotted getting ready to breed. #StayOnTheTracks
