🦢🙌 Exciting News!
We're delighted to announce that this year’s first arrivals of the Bewick's Swans have just arrived at Slimbridge.
They are Maisie, her partner Maifield and their two cygnets, who all touched down earlier this afternoon (16 Nov).

They're off! The Bewick's have left and are on their migration back to the Tundra. Some travelling as fast as 83kmph (up to 50 mph) thanks to the tail wind. Some of our tracked swans are plotted on the map, Arkadi has arrived in Gotland, Sweden, Pomegranate & Elroy are in Latvia.
🦩 In Loving Memory of Mr. James 🦩
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved flamingo, Mr. James, the only James' flamingo in the UK, cherished at WWT Slimbridge since 1961. 🫶

Bitterns are a very special bird that we regularly see on the reserve, particularly in the winter months.
This year we're delighted that the species have bred on site. 🙌
This week, we say farewell to a very special someone. 👋🦆
Good luck to our Reserve Warden, Scott on his next adventure; thank you for all you do for wetlands and wildlife. We will miss you very much!

This wild vole was spotted earlier this month by our Reserve Placement, Kate, whilst they were having a snack. 😍🌿
Just look at that pink little nose. 🥰

After three long months we are thrilled to announce that Slimbridge Wetland Centre will re-open on June 10. Members of the public and WWT members must pre-book online to visit so we can manage numbers. We can’t wait to welcome you back… Neither can they!
Incoming! Three new Bewick's swans have arrived! 🦢🦢🦢
'Overshoot' arrived on Sunday afternoon; we think she's a female around 4-5 years old and the brown-reddish feathers are from iron staining from iron-rich lakes and soil en route.

Bewick's swans stories 🦢
Bubbly & Soapy arrived at Slimbridge with 2 cygnets on 18 Dec 2022. On 24 Jan 2023 only Bubbly & 1 cygnet were at Slimbridge, with Soapy & the other cygnet missing 😔
But this week on the morning of 8 March, the whole family were back together 💙
And they’re off! 👋🏼 We had just 1 single Bewick’s swan left on the Rushy this morning as they have begun their epic migration back to the Russian tundra. 📸

If rainforests are the lungs of the planet, then wetlands are the lifeblood. As much as we need air to breathe, we need water to live.
The conservation of our wetlands is essential to life on Earth.
Here is Jake, Slimbridge's Living Collections Manager's son (they live on site). During his art lesson Jake wanted to make rainbows on the road to welcome Slimbridge's essential staff coming to work🌈 ☺️
