On This Day 28th Oct 1916. Hauptmann Oswald Boelcke who was a German flying ace credited with 40 victories is killed (aged 25) near Bapaume, France.

On This Day 28th Oct 1915. HMS Hythe a troopship was sunk after colliding with HMS Sarnia approaching the Dardanelles and went down in 10 minutes. 275 men on board including crew.154 drowned. 129 men of the 1st/3rd Kent Field Company, Royal Engineers, from Tunbridge Wells.

On This Day 28th Oct 1915. HMS Argyll was a total loss when she ran on the Bell Rock, near Dundee. In spite of the heavy sea the whole of the crew was rescued by destroyers. Argyll had just undergone a refit at Devonport and was making her way to Scapa to rejoin her squadron.
