On one of the becks flowing into the Tees. Force from the Old Norse Fors for waterfall. Foss is still used in Iceland and Norway. More evidence of the regions links to Scandinavia.
A frozen Summerhill Force in Teesdale in 1929. The recess behind the waterfall is known as Gibson's Cave.

100 years ago today, 19 December 1925, the first annual exhibition of racing pigeons, promoted by the Langley Moor Social Club Homing Society was held. Reported in the Durham Chronicle, which alongside other local newspapers, digitised copies are available to view at The Story.
