The scheme reported an increase in its asset base, with a diversified investment portfolio spread across term deposits, treasury instruments, and a guaranteed fund with APA Life Assurance, which declared an interest rate of 11.5%.

The Water Sector (Umbrella) Pension Fund Scheme marked a significant milestone yesterday by holding its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM). As of 31st December, the young retirement benefits scheme for water service providers in Kenya had registered 645 members.

Emerging Theme.The sector will mainstream participation of youth, women in STEM, informal service providers, school children, and women leaders in the WASH sector, utilizing behavior change, case studies benchmarking, and to advance equitable water and sanitation service delivery

Sub-theme 5.The sector will advance interdisciplinary, multisectoral, and co-created research addressing local climate resilience challenges while investing in capacity strengthening for policymakers, practitioners, and communities to scale climate-smart WASH innovations.

Sub-theme 4.Actors in the WASH sector will leverage IoT, AI, and big data for real-time monitoring and predictive climate risk management in WASH systems, while fostering cross-sectoral partnerships for scalable climate-resilient sanitation solutions.

Sub-theme 3.Kenya’s WASH sector will adopt people-centered, climate-smart, and financially viable solutions by combining emerging technologies with local knowledge and robust governance frameworks.

Sub-theme 2.WASH policies and frameworks should integrate climate risk assessments and adaptation strategies, shifting to performance-driven governance with inclusive decision-making that prioritizes gender equity and community participation.

Sub-theme 1.Utilities and institutions will strengthen governance, transparency, and data reliability to attract blended financing—PPPs and PiPs—and de-risk the sector, ensuring strong local ownership with private sector partnerships.
