Free to shoot people in the head with no repercussions….
Maybe I’m too much of a European, but I honestly can’t understand how so many Americans find it perfectly natural to be shot in the head on the spot for the slightest act of disobedience toward any sort of law enforcement. You might wanna revisit that "land of the free" thing.

Omg, I suspect this is true. Including caesareans.
My blackpill about medicine has been learning that doctors define the seriousness/intensity of a surgery according to what it means for THEM and not what it means for the PATIENT. Surgery is “minor” because it takes 45 minutes to perform, even if it’s a 6 month recovery.

just spent two hours crafting a thought, only to realize I didn’t agree with it anymore. this is one of many reasons the act of writing is so important, and should never be outsourced. thinking hones your writing. writing hones your thinking.

So true - the OT who was the gatekeeper of whether or not my mum could get a bedrail kept asking what my mum’s goals were for rehab. I kept saying ‘this is an acute issue, she broke her wrist yesterday and is delirious, I just need to keep her safe for the next 2-3 days’.
One practical suggestion I can give for folks bringing in older parents to the ER: Always bring up their baseline. ERs are full, busy, lots of people who are confused and immobile at baseline. Do not let them assume this is their norm. They may look out and see a confused elder

I don’t know if this is true but it’s a fascinating idea
rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Gambling is Australia's equivalent to gun control in the US -- we can see just damaging it is, but our major party politicians are too scared and too self-interested to do anything https://t.co/27DUeaWxYr

Across its multiple forms, the gambling industry is able to dictate terms to major party politicians at the state and federal level, with vast indifference to the social disaster it causes.
