Kathleen Kennedy has produced 8 Best Picture nominees and 4 Best Drama/Limited Series Emmy nominees. She produced the biggest movie of all-time domestically and as a producer her movies are second all-time at the box office behind only Kevin Feige.
I should be so terrible.
My counterpoint is that the original X-MEN is really good, especially for the time it was made. Very smartly focuses on Wolverine and Rogue, sets up the world, nails the Xavier/Magneto relationship, and does it all in 95 brisk minutes.
My hot take of the day is that most of the Fox X-Men movies were bad, and nostalgia has blinded a lot of people into thinking it was a good universe to begin with.
The exceptions to this rule are:
X-Men: First Class,
Days of Future Past,
The Wolverine,
Deadpool 1 & 2,
& Logan
What I always find striking about DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is how good the writing is. Every character in that movie, no matter how terrible their actions, thinks they're doing the right, justifiable thing based on the information they have.
When this photo was taken Daisy Ridley was playing Kira and she wanted to get the hell off Jakku ASAP. The characters in this movie changed so much up to two months before release.
SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY is a genuine piece of shit that hit HBO Max the day of release and it still made $163 million. If COYOTE V ACME cost $75 million WB would *at worst* break even theatrically and make a bunch of money with ancillary sales.
Happy New Year! I thought about releasing a “statement” but it felt overly self-important, so let’s just do a thread: I’m leaving the scoop/spoiler game. I know most of my followers come for scoops and not my keen wit and brilliant mind and I wanted to be honest with all of you.
Hi
@elonmusk
we have our disagreements but I know you think Hollywood sucks - you could really stick it to them by buying COYOTE V ACME and premiering it on X (I'll even start calling it X, I swear!) 🙏
I somehow saw GODZILLA X KONG without being embargoed so here are my thoughts: it's the weakest Legendary Monsterverse movie but I still had a good time with it and hope to see these goofballs again.
REBEL MOON reminded me of something I said years ago: Zack Snyder is a great visualist with little story sense. I still believe that, but I also think Zack believes in EVERYTHING he shoots. He thinks every moment is a very important moment and I've come to respect that
I’m looking forward to the deep dives on what happened during AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM’s long development. Its first test screening was nearly two years ago. Two different Batmen appeared at various points.
Apparently the new PLANET OF THE APES movie is very good. In other equally-shocking breaking news, the sky is blue and sources have said water feels “wet.”
Dear SAW producers: when you guys call all the shots we get SAW IV, V, 3D, and JIGSAW. When you let Kevin Greutert be in charge we get SAW VI and X. Please trust Greutert because numerous people involved with SAW XI have reached out concerned about your decisions
#MeanGirls
continues its reign as queen bee of the box office, earning $3.2 million on Friday.
The movie musical is expected to add another $11 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic total to more than $49 million.
I think it's funny some people have said Sam Raimi shouldn't direct another MCU movie because they didn't like DOCTOR STRANGE 2 when 100% of that movie's good stuff is Raimi. Dude brought it.
I don't count this as a scoop so I'm not breaking any self-imposed rules: I've heard Glen Powell is *awesome* in TWISTERS and in full-blown "Yep, that's a movie star!!" mode
Can think of few things so depressing as being fully prepped and caffeinated, fighting off nap urges, and managing to stay awake through this - just to finish off with THE RISE OF SKYWALKER and go home.
Looks like ~$11M previews for
#Dune2
, including $2M early shows last Sunday. Initial audience reception very positive (Solid A). Expecting $68-75M weekend.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is such a hit Warner Bros re-edits SUICIDE SQUAD to better resemble it. SS makes so much money WB wants a SUICIDE SQUAD game so they put Rocksteady on it. Rocksteady wants their game to be edgy so they kill Batman. Therefore James Gunn killed Arkham Batman
I feel bad for people who don’t like musicals. Their whole identity is to burst with emotion before exploding into song, to my mind as “pure” a film genre as can be.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on Alec Baldwin’s ‘RUST’, has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the criminal case regarding the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
I've said it before but THE FORCE AWAKENS was a total clusterfuck that somehow came together at the last second and, combined with the overhaul of ROGUE ONE, taught Lucasfilm all the wrong lessons about how "easy" it is to save a story that isn't working with reshoots.
THE FIRST OMEN unnerved me in a way mainstream horror almost never does. It stumbles when it focuses on being a prequel but for most of its runtime it’s an intense, scary experience led by a fantastic performance from Nell Tiger Free. One heck of a debut from Arkasha Stevenson.
Don't know why people are shocked by this, folks worked for cheap on JOKER. $1 billion at the box office and a Best Actor Oscar plus Musical Score + 9 other noms means people are getting *PAID* this time out. Phoenix and Todd Phillips alone account for nearly $40M of the increase
btw I was clearly wrong about Melissa Barrera doing press for ABIGAIL and that makes me very happy, I hope Hollywood is coming around to realizing how in the right she was. Just wanted to say that/take my lumps before I take a break
Can confirm this took place yesterday. This was so secretive even the screening company employees didn't know what they were showing until close to the event.
Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR II test-screened in Vegas. The cut shown was 2 hours 40 minutes and was described as "thrilling" and "Oscar-worthy". Connie Nielsen, Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington are said to be the standouts.
One of my favorite things is people seeing early AQUAMAN 2 test screenings or BATGIRL, long before THE FLASH’s release, and Michael Keaton is just Batman with no explanation. The DCEU was getting so wonky its test screenings should have started with “Previously on…”
I’m looking forward to the deep dives on what happened during AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM’s long development. Its first test screening was nearly two years ago. Two different Batmen appeared at various points.
Heard from a few people who’ve seen the final cut and they’re as enthusiastic as David. That different gear thing is where I think THE PHANTOM MENACE comparisons I heard came from - it’s intentionally a slower, more stop-and-start sort of movie than FURY ROAD was.
brings me great joy to report that Furiosa is really, *really* fucking good.
operates in an extremely different gear than Fury Road (in ways that i suspect will frustrate some people), but also manages to make that movie even richer while carving its own legend in the wasteland.
Good! Producers could have dug in and kept it this year knowing they'd make money after how well-received SAW X was. This is a move to ensure SAW XI is as good as the creative team hopes it can be.
They’re introducing an extended look at TWISTERS. The VFX aren’t quite finished, but the footage is absolutely incredible.
Guys they shoot fireworks into a tornado. There are twin tornadoes.
THIS IS AMAZING.

The worst of these movies is mediocre and we're so prone to binary opinions and hyperbole that anything that doesn't register a strong response is aggressively shat on to create a strong response
ECHO's had an interesting build-up. Tons of rumors of a troubled production and Marvel not being happy with it, but then the narrative changed with the first trailer and the writers involved. Now it seems like the narrative has re-flipped and people expect it to be bad again?
This is going to flop. We live in the age of the legacy sequel, not the total reboot - audiences don't want the slate wiped clean. With my luck they'll get Gore Verbinski back, he'll make a fucking banger, and end up in double director jail.
The first trailer for Radio Silence's 'ABIGAIL' starring Melissa Barrera.
After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an…
Interesting move for Flanagan but I worry this is another DOCTOR SLEEP situation where he makes a sequel that’s better than it has any right to be but it tanks because audience interest isn’t there
Drew Goddard is a huge talent and this could be very good but I think MATRIX RESURRECTIONS showed audiences just aren't interested in this IP. Guess we'll see.
ALIEN: ROMULUS spoilers are floating out there from its recent test screening in Sacramento, be warned if you don’t wish to know. For what it’s worth the reactions I heard were pretty positive.
I've been thinking a lot about leak culture and my place in it recently. Obviously the Insomniac situation is due to a hack, but everyone's gleefully looking through what the hackers released (I get that impulse). Sucks for everyone involved for their work to be shown like this.
WHY THE FUCK ARE THE CONVERSATION SCENES SHOT LIKE A FUCKING STUDENT FILM. YOU PEOPLE HAVE HUNDREDS OF FUCKING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND THIS IS THE BEST YOU CAN DO?
QT lives in Israel with his family, I wonder if the terrible shit happening there had an impact on this decision. (Also, you can make more than ten movies, Quentin! WEST SIDE STORY was Spielberg’s 33rd movie. Scorsese just knocked out KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON at age 81.)
Robert Downey Jr. says playing Iron Man had some of his greatest performances as an actor
He thinks it went 'a little bit unnoticed because of the genre'
The filmmakers would like to gratefully acknowledge the original true believer, AVI ARAD, whose vision led the way to bringing these iconic characters to the screen.
Maybe I'll see the final cut of AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM tonight. I only exist in the first place because of the DCEU - once upon a time some fans lied about a JUSTICE LEAGUE test screening's reaction and I had to call out their fibbing. I feel obligated to see this out.
It’s gotten to a point where DEADPOOL 3 filmmakers are issuing statements asking not to discuss leaks, and I think that request extends to appearances/spoilers I’ve talked about in the past. I believe comic book movies especially have been hit hard by the scooping industry.
I try not to talk politics as I know it’s not why people follow me but I’m starting to think Democrats running an 81-year-old man with zero crossover appeal and a 21% approval rating with Gen Z may be a bad idea
@ScreamCorridor
I think SCREAM fans are blessed. Whichever movie is your least favorite is likely leagues better than the worst movie of other long-running franchises
Pablo Schreiber, who plays Master Chief in the Halo show, explained why Master Chief doesn’t always wear his helemet: “You're not going to be able to bring an audience along in a long-form story without having access to a character's face, which tells you what they're feeling,…
WONKA cost less than half as much as THE MARVELS and is opening over the holiday season, where openings are depressed in favor of legs. KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON and NAPOLEON are loss-leaders for streaming services.
Wonka - $39 million opening: CHARMING!
Killers of The Flower Moon - $23 million opening: WOW!
Napoleon - $20 million opening: TRIUMPHANT!
The Marvels - $47 million opening: EPIC CATASTROPHE!
We deserve an explanation!!

The redemption and reevaluation of the prequels will always feel strange to me. If you were born after, you don't know what it was like. Everyone united in hate, THE RISE OF SKYWALKER times 50. I was called so many names for enjoying them.
This is where the fun begins. Empire celebrates 25 years of the

It’s because people have been waiting for Marvel to fall and MARVELS is their first flop. DC’s had a terrible year/run of years. And not that it’ll mean much but AQUAMAN 2 is going to outgross THE MARVELS.
Interesting how Aquaman 2 is performing worse than The Marvel's, yet we aren't getting articles upon articles dragging James Wan and the cast and trashing the film. Gee, I wonder why that's the case.
Many of my issues come down to the Skar King who's a lame baddie that never feels like an actual threat. Ghidorah wouldn't have broken a sweat murdering this dude with two heads sleeping.
Is it bad I’m not disappointed? Always thought a prequel TV series was a very wrong-headed way to relaunch this series, even if the rights situation is a mess.
@ScreamCorridor
Ghostface is trying to lure Sam back to Woodsboro. If Tara dies, why would Sam go back knowing she's Billy Loomis' daughter and would certainly be attacked? She only goes back out of determination to protect Tara.
The home media release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will include a "raw" version of the movie, that shows original footage of the actors' performances in their mo-cap suits.
@MightyKeef
omg the point of the ending is she has the chance to get the family BACK which she would not have it she’d killed Abby
why is this so hard for people
I wish they did a crash course thing where we'd get nationwide double features of GODZILLA X KONG and GODZILLA: MINUS ONE to introduce new audiences to all the glorious sides and tones of the Big G
