Eldgos hófst norðan Grindavíkur, suðsuðaustan Hagafells, klukkan 7:57 í morgun. Gosið hófst fyrir norðan varnargarð sem byrjað var að reisa norðan Grindavíkur. Ný sprunga opnaðist norðan bæjarjaðarsins um kl 12:10 og hefur hraun náð til bæjarins. https://t.co/CUtPuZ0XsV

An eruption has started near Hagafell-Grindavík at 7:57 UTC. Then a new eruptive fissure opened at 12:10, just north of the town. Lava flows extruded from this fissure have now entered the town. https://t.co/9vYBBjNcX9

Scientists who flew over the eruption site this morning confirm that no eruptive activity is visible and that lava flow from the craters seems to have ceased. Glowing is still visible in the lava field, possibly within closed channels.

Áfram dregur úr krafti eldgossins við Sundhnúksgíga. Hraunflæði er gróflega áætlað um ¼ af því sem það var í byrjun og er þriðjungur upphaflegu sprungunnar virkur. Kvikustrókar eru einnig lægri en í byrjun goss, um það bil 30 metrar þar sem þeir ná hæst. https://t.co/CUtPuZ0XsV

The size of the volcanic eruption at Sundhnúksgígar is diminishing. The lava flow is estimated to be about one-quarter of what it was at the beginning of the eruption on 18 December, and a third of the original fissure is active. https://t.co/9vYBBjNcX9
