Alongside the ECB taking action, it is my hope that other people and orgs in the cricketing ecosystem will reflect on their own role in the failings highlighted by the ICEC - & take steps to raise the bar higher - without this, cricket will remain racist, sexist and elitist, 4/4

I have experienced it all - institutional cover ups and failures, systemic sexism, bullying, verbal abuse and victimisation for speaking up. While I have been dismissed and ignored by those who are highly resistant to change, the report makes it very clear that I am not alone 3/4

While the ECB has already apologised, I believe other institutions, e.g. the MCC, Oxford & Cambridge (& others) should also be issuing an immediate, public apology. There are some 44 recommendations in the report, each of which I believe will be vital for enhancing equity 2/4

Very proud to have contributed to the ICEC’s report on equity in cricket, released today. Consistent with my own experiences, the report found a 'rotten' culture, as "racism is entrenched in cricket", and"women are marginalised and routinely experience sexism and misogyny” 1/4

I reiterate the requests made across many years, as set out in this petition: https://t.co/t9HPsnCHjP. I also call on sponsors of Lords such as @jpmorgan to do their bit and make their funding contingent on gender equality. Pls also sign this petition: https://t.co/ucnISjf90u 5/5

As it stands, Lord’s is effectively the ‘Home of Cricket’ for men, e.g. with 15 times more days having been reserved for men's only matches (47 days) than for women’s matches (3 days) in 2023. In launching @equalityatlords I am calling for Gender Equality at Lord’s … Now! 4/5

I call on @HomeOfCricket to immediately, publicly apologise for the past exclusion of women from this event & from other fixtures & the organisation more broadly. Women had to wait 212 years to become members & are still given far fewer playing opportunities. This must change 3/5

The MCC are yet to apologise for excluding the women for so long (the men’s match dates back to 1827 & the first women’s match was only held in 2022). The past exclusion of women, from this fixture (and others), must be properly (and immediately) acknowledged, ideally today 2/5

Great to see that the Oxbridge women cricketers will take to the main ground at Lord’s for the 2nd time in history today. It was a long, hard fight for equality - it should not have taken until 2022 (and very active, sustained campaigning) for the women’s match to be included 1/5

Thanks @georgedobell1 for your article announcing the petition I've launched which asks cricket sponsors to demand gender equality at major venues; I call on sponsors to play a key role in addressing the systemic sexism that still exists in cricket (1/2)

#OnThisDay in 1920, women were granted the right to take degrees at Oxford University. 130 women took part in the historic matriculation at the Divinity School. A week later, the first women received their Oxford degrees in the Sheldonian Theatre. 📷 | @StAnnesCollege

Gender equality cannot be achieved from one gesture alone. Ongoing, inclusive opportunities are required. I’m very pleased to hear that 2022 was not the first and last women’s Varsity match to be hosted on the main ground. Looking forward to the 2023 double-header Varsity event.
On this: the MCC have confirmed the universities will be invited to play the 2023 varsity match as a double-header on the main square to ensure gender equality, as happened for the first time in 2022. @VanessaPicker

100 years ago, women's football was blossoming in England before men in power shoved them into the shadows. after #WEURO2022, that same nation is now standing on the precipice of the era they always should have had. some emotional thoughts for @abcsport:

The last time England won a major trophy, women were banned from playing football. The Lionesses' win reflects that forgotten history, writes Samantha Lewis.

With this in mind, I am now calling on politicians to intervene (with inquiry into sexism in cricket), journalists to draw further attention to the sexism that still exists, and other players to speak up about their experiences. I am happy to be contacted for further comment 9/9

A culture of fear exists within cricket which needs to be addressed. E.g. multiple Oxbridge players were scared of getting booted from their Club if they supported me. Countless pro cricketers have said they can’t speak out publicly although they are aware of systemic sexism 8/9

Alongside the legal avenue (mentioned in the Times article), I am continuing to campaign for equality in cricket. With further high profile examples of sexism (e.g. ICC Chair's comments re women’s test cricket), I believe we urgently need an inquiry into sexism in cricket 7/9

It's safe to say the clubs were not supportive. I hope that women who raise equity issues in other clubs, teams & settings are not met with the same hostility & obstruction in future. And that their explicit references to the mental health toll are not repeatedly ignored 6/9

Last May, the story broke (ESPN CricInfo) re the Varsity inequity issue. Within 7 days, a 2022 women's match had been agreed on, with the Clubs insisting they were supportive all along. When the women play at Lord's this Monday, it will be 1,309 days from when I first asked 5/9
