The only soup in Nigeria that is actually a soup is pepper soup . Every other thing is actually a STEW . Soups are meant to be very light in consistency, (close to how water is). If it’s thick like egusi and vegetable, then it should be called a stew.

This isn’t how language works. If ppl call an item, concept or food a certain word, then that’s what it means. What the UK & the US call biscuit, football & chips, mean two different things and the US isn’t making any change like you’re suggesting. We all don’t have to align.
