I think it would be great to start a new thread of constrained urban infill sites in the UK so I will start one now to highlight where every opportunity to deliver new homes can be taken. Please feel free to add for further references! First up DPQ https://t.co/s3MtQXlgO7

I don't agree fully. LPAs can decide to allocate more small sites however this is unusual and generally more work and more objections for them. We need to see more diversity in who is delivering housing though for sure.
In our second evidence session, Phineas Harper, an independent writer and critic, stated that innovative and experimental architectural design is being stifled by a lack of competition within the private sector, which is dominated by a small number of large companies.

Almost a quarter of local authorities in England did not grant a single permission for self- and custom-build housing over the year to October 2024, according to the governmentโs latest figures. https://t.co/xirvcmD4FE

How this man got selected I do not know.
After the Planning Bill debacle, the @WildlifeTrusts is warning of fresh attacks on nature. Itโs madness. Trashing nature for short-term โgrowthโ wrecks our future and itโs deeply unpopular. Polling shows the Government is totally at odds with the public on this.

We have far fewer homes relative to our population size than other European countries.

It's a real shame that for all the rhetoric @UKLabour has been so slow to make any meaningful changes to the system. I beleive that part of the problem may well be the civil servants being computer says no or simply have no idea of what is needed to make the changes required
The sharp drop in planning application submissions in the latest quarter means that there is โlittle chanceโ of the government being able to meet its commitment to build 1.5 million houses over the course of this Parliament, say lawyers and consultants. https://t.co/zyhKtILaCo

Great to be a part of this. I hope @UKLabour start to grab the bull by the horns and enacting planning policies that will help improve the dismal situation many SMEs, particularly S, are going through right now.

50% of this would have been social housing. Nearly 10,000 households are on Wandsworthโs council waiting list at the momentโฆ
Wandsworthโs Planning Applications Committee tonight rejected the proposal for a 28-story tower block by Battersea Bridge. The committee listened to the views of local residents & agreed that the Glassmills proposal was incompatible with the existing heritage and landscape ๐

The climate change impacts vs... even more import from other countries,. presumably, where there are less safeguards. Or just don't have the materials needed to build. Bravo.
Permission for a quarry on a 28-hectare greenfield site has been quashed after an objector threatened legal action over a failure to assess its climate effects, citing a 2024 landmark Supreme Court ruling, according to a law firm representing campaigners https://t.co/CmLk2ruQwn

We certainly aren't on track the only way we could get near to that target now would be to change tacts. A move like allowing Room To Grow would certainly assist in plugging the gap however. https://t.co/87W7alxIMR

The planning minister and housing secretary have both claimed that the government remains on track to meet its target to deliver 1.5 million new homes in England this parliament, despite the Office for Budget Responsibility estimating it would fall short https://t.co/s75OxBiHyC

I mean you couldn't make it up to be fair. Headed the most aggressive national campaigns against homes for 6 years prior to becoming a MP for Labour under the pledge of delivering 1.5m homes.
Plans to reform environmental regulations risk irreversible harm to nature. My amendments to the Planning Bill would prevent this. Safeguarding nature and building homes can go hand in hand - with an empowered, well-funded planning system. https://t.co/MG5foTfJcX

It makes absolute sense to make train stations the basis for new community hubs and centres for housing growth.
Great stuff from @railindustry with some timely provocations about how Britain's railway stations can help drive economic growth (and a mention of our rural station research to boot). Worth a read ๐๐ป https://t.co/vRAslswZFd

There are accountancy firms and the like gaming the system but with the built environment we need to ensure that we have doors open to anyone wishing to work in this sector and the apprenticeship scheme is a massive boost to social mobility and diversity of candidates.

I was told yesterday that it maybe announced that level 7 apprenticeships will be scrapped. @AngelaRayner is against this and I am too. We already have a housing crisis and removing opportunities particularly for built environment education and qualifications is bonkers.

Major site? Free submission via local plan and assessment of essentially all aspects of the sites suitability. Minor site - pay for pre app and application before you have the principle agreed to a place where you could actually ensure viability in the widest sense.

Very happy to say I am promoting a 4.8 acre site that is essentially the most sustainably located green field site in Colchester City. I can't help but think as someone who works primarily on small sites though how skewed our system is towards large sites.

Wages growing faster than prices. Jobs up. Inflation down. Interest rates down. NHS waiting lists down. Houses and infrastructure unblocked. Free breakfast clubs rolling out. National Living Wage increasing. National Minimum Wage increasing. Defence spending increased. 2 million

New jobs for all trades is all very good but we lag behind on MMC and modular construction. The way we now deal with wood in construction is incredibly problematic. We need to start the next construction revolution and it's not going to be by building ilas we already do.
We are expanding and upskilling the construction workforce to build 1.5 million new homes in this Parliament. Our Plan for Change will deliver security for working people and renewal for our country.
