Great video showing how to produce sediment plates from unconsolidated deposits. The epoxy is being sucked in and hardens. The level of detail visible afterwards is outstanding.
This inspired us, along with Nelida Manrique and Rigoberto Aguilar from @IngemmetPeru, to use the method to capture 50,000 years of explosive history from the Misti volcano and showcase it at the Arequipa @indeciperu Risk Center. 🌋🔍 #Volcano #Misti #Arequipa #RiskAwareness

Field practical in early October with summer conditions and a great bunch of interested students. #milos is a beautiful island that I have a somewhat close link to.... Combining excellent geology, great food and plenty of cats that are happily accepting hugs and treats....

IAVCEI is saddened to learn that Hans-Ulrich Schmincke passed away on 24/08/24 at the age of 86. He was SG of IAVCEI between 1983-1991, and awarded the Thorarinsson medal in 1993. During his mandate, he revamped the publication model of BV, a legacy that we profit from today

Stoked to announce that @dfg_public will fund the PhD of @carolina_af56 at @LMU_Volc (@LMU_Muenchen). We will be studying petrophysical properties of pyroclastic deposits on 4 case-study volcanoes to better constrain transport and sedimentation conditions. 🌋😎

Back to the German volcanoes of the East Eifel for the annual @LMU_Volc field trip. This year, @Thomas_JJones and @carolina_af56 are joining and contribute to elucidate textural secrets of pumices. For now, a part of this beautiful outcrop has survived mining.
