The @USFWS is proposing to list the ghost orchid as endangered. This rare flower faces extinction from poaching, habitat loss, and habitat degradation. Fewer than 1,000 remain in the wild in the U.S. More about this news and how you can comment: https://t.co/tnHIvfYIU8

North American river otters have long whiskers (known as vibrissae) that are specially adapted to help them locate prey in murky water. A sensitive nerve network at the base of the whiskers works to transfer tactile information from their whiskers to their brain. 📸USFWS

When you realize how short life is, you ought to celebrate it even more🌼 Spring ephemerals grow for a limited time when conditions are favorable. They emerge quickly, reproduce, & go dormant, typically within 2 months. 📸Trillium by Gary Peeples/USFWS

#Manatees move through the water with more grace than you’d think, thanks to their torpedo-esque body shape. They are strong swimmers, capable of reaching speeds of 15mph in short bursts thanks to the power of their paddle-shaped tail. 📸Carli Segelson/USFWS

If you’ve ever noticed tiger swallowtail butterflies clustered around a mud puddle, they’re not just resting - they’re puddling! This behavior allows them to absorb essential minerals, such as sodium, that aren’t found in nectar. 📸USFWS

As little as 20 minutes outside each day can provide your body with the boost it needs to feel good. Exposure to nature has been linked with a reduction in stress and anxiety. Remember, nature is a fantastic form of medicine! 📸Tamara Johnson

Mother/baby #manatee moment for your Wednesday? Yes, please! 😍 Like other mammals, young manatees rely on their mother’s milk to thrive. They nurse underwater, just behind their mother’s pectoral flippers. Video courtesy of Salty Siren Tours & Charters #ManateeAppreciationDay

We’ve gotta give major props to bird parents, who manage to build nests in some of the most creative places (like barbed wire fencing). What weird but effective nest locations have you spotted? 📸Laura Hubers/USFWS
