The @UNAUSA Leadership Summit took place this weekend in Missouri. Our chapter sent out several board members, and a speaker for the breakout session “Power-full vs. Performative Youth Advocacy.” We are excited to bring back all that we learned to UNASD. #UNASummit #YouthAdvocacy

San Diego’s Veterans Day Parade is taking place on November 11th to honor all veterans for their service. 2025 is a special year since it marks “the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II” ( https://t.co/J3sssHcirV). UNASD thanks all veterans for their courage and dedication.

The San Diego World Affairs travelogue event, Celebrating San Diego's Multiculturalism, was a success. With brilliant guest speakers and a fun scavenger hunt after, participants got to experience the culture of dozens of countries, learn about travel, and enter a 500$ raffle.

October 19th is LGBT Center Awareness Day. It’s a time to support the LGBTQIA+ community and raise awareness on the importance of centers with health resources, support groups, and safe spaces. #LGBTQCommunity

Annually on October 11th, the International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated. It celebrates girls everywhere, amplifying their voices and leadership. It stems from the 1995 World Conference where countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. Even though the month is coming to an end, the “contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to history, culture and advancement” will continue to be recognized ( https://t.co/E8AKO9G0Ek). Happy heritage!

Art created by neurodivergent individuals is in the exhibit “Art of Autism: A Different Lens.” The Art of Autism org and the Oceanside Museum of Art invites communities to view autism through a new lens. This specific exhibit will be open to the public up until August 3rd.

April 7th marks the beginning of the 1994 Rwandan genocide which lasted for 100 days. Every year, “the United Nations organizes commemorative events at its Headquarters…The purpose is to honor the memory of the victims, and pay tribute to the survivors while raising awareness”

Last week, hundreds gathered in downtown San Diego for a women and human rights march. Activists marched for their movement with positive energy in celebration of Women’s day. “This goes beyond women's rights, it's human rights. It's our very existence” (Lai, 2025).

Recent proposed federal cuts to NIH Funding have faced push-back from UC center cancer research. As the nations leader in NIH funded research, University of California institutions like the UCSD School of Medicine and Moores Cancer Center are leaders in health science.

The North County Community Resource Fair aimed to help those on parole or probation, and provided “immediate access to services such as ID vouchers, help with birth certificates, food stamps, general relief, and referrals for employment and education” (County News Center, 2025)
