Things that are NOT "God's will": #infertility #miscarriage #cancer #AIDS #CarAccident #Unemployed #ChildLoss And a host of other things. Stop making everything God's Plan or Will. That's not how #creation works. This kind of theology is toxic #GodsPlan #Godswill

If your kids are as surprised as your friends on FB about your "sudden" divorce, you failed your children. Being adults and properly communicating what's happening is different than pretending it's fine until it's all official. #Marriage #Church #Divorce #Kids #Parenting

This hymn isn't perfect, but it's not even in the top 50 of worst hymns. Have you even seen "Church in try Wildwood" or "There is a Fountain"?

The insistence from Theo Bros that weak #Apologetics qualify as peer reviewed #scholarship is both hilarious and troubling. They complain about "indoctrination", while simultaneously ignoring entire fields of study because it inconveniences their #theology. #church #pastor

It's possible to pray for someone's family in their grief and hold in tension the harm that person caused others. Those are my feelings about #JohnMacArthur His family is grieving. Pray for them. He protected sex abusers and told women to stay with abusers. Don't forget that

You mean to tell me that your relationship that went from meeting to marriage in 3 weeks turned out not to be stable? I'm shocked, shocked I say! #pastor #church #marriage

There is going to be a temptation, fellow #clergy, to change your #sermon for #Sunday in reaction to the passing of #BigBeautifulBill. If you do that, have a friend read/review it. A rant from the pulpit won't help, as good as it may feel in the moment. #church #pastor

Nothing quite like accidentally skipping an example you worked on and prepped for your #sermon There wasn't anything crazy happening or distractions. Just left it out. Realized as I was closing. And no, I don't go back and try to quickly ham fist it. Just let it go #pastor

Interesting question... Leaving out anyone from the last 100 years due to recency bias... Either Gregory I due to Liturgical reforms which still impact all western Christians to this day... Or Leo XIII who for the first time in centuries placed the poor at the front

#American logic: Town person: Our water tastes awful. We need a new system. Mayor: I agree. Support a new water tax- TP: A new tax? No. You get enough already. Mayor: Then we can't replace the treatment plant. TP: Fine. (Buys bottled water, costing more than tax increase)

Hey #UMC and other #Methodist folk: Should #clergy spouses ever be the lay delegate (from their clergy spouse's church) to Annual Conference? #church #pastor

5. Write down the main point on the top of each page. Make sure you're focused on it and people could easily discern it But most importantly: remember that the sermon is meant to share the gospel. It's not a Ted Talk or a comedy routine. Stay focused. Keep practicing 6/6

3. Practice with a manuscript or strict outline. Make tangents part of the sermon, not random occurances 4. Limit humor to one time per sermon, and even then, make sure it actually connects to the main point 5/6

1. Eliminate all but essential information in sermon intro 2. "Preach" the sermon in practice by removing all Scripture references. If it still makes complete sense, your text and sermon are not connected enough 4/6

All of these can be overcome, but only if the #preacher is willing to watch their own sermons back and live in the tension of critique. If not, these habits will continue and get worse What did I suggest? 3/6

1. Intro before sermon was too long (10 minutes+) and not connected to message 2. #Scripture passage had little bearing on the main point 3. Random tangents dominated the time, over 50% of total 4. Humor was overused and not applicable 5. I couldn't summarize the main point 2/6

Was reviewing a #sermon for a colleague. They've been told, "You never get to the point". They asked me for feedback. What did I notice? 1/6
