2/3 Julia worked with Paul, one of the Dental Prosthetics team here in UHCW, to create a mould for the patient. This fits perfectly between their lips and teeth to create an extra seal, and then attaches and makes the EMST an effective form of therapy.

Brilliant collaborative work by our H&N speech therapy assistant, @julia_pennie this week. She wanted to use an Aspire Medical EMST device to support dysphagia therapy with a patient, but their trismus was impacting on the lip seal needed to make the device effective. 1/3.

Just to add, the swallow assessment was with a person with a tracheostomy. Credit to Lilly and her supervisor for being able to actively participate in a complex assessment at this stage of her placement 👏.

Wednesday's @SLTatBCU student update! Today @ldunkley04 was in the critical care unit and took part in a swallow assessment with @BrionySLT supervising. Lilly said it was lovely as she got to do the oro-motor exam independently and identified food the patient would enjoy 1/2.

Lilly, our level 6 @SLTatBCU student (@ldunkley04) has had another really varied day - she completed an independent communication assessment, observed a VF, attended CPD and completed an informal assessment with an inpatient using conversation at bedside. Brilliant work 👏#slt2be
