Since being illegally introduced to Southcentral Alaska in the 1950s, pike have spread to more than 150 lakes and rivers in the region. A CFOS-led team discovered one reason why: The freshwater fish are traveling through salt water to find new territory.

With help from CFOS’ Schery Umanzor, students at Lewis & Clark Elementary in Richland, WA, made a kelp farming toolkit for the FIRST LEGO League Challenge. They qualified for the state tournament on Jan 18. Congrats to Nirbhuy, Aisuke, Tristan and Henry!

After 111 straight days at sea, Glider 1152 completed its Gulf of Alaska mission last week. The underwater autonomous vehicle, which gathers ocean data through the CFOS glider lab in Fairbanks, set a record for longest unmanned glider deployment in Alaska waters. #FieldworkFriday
