On this first day of Hanukkah, we grieve with Jews in Australia, at home, and around the world after suffering another evil antisemitic terrorist attack. May the menorah's light shine through the darkness and serve as a symbol of hope for a future where Jewish people can live,

Today Jews around the world celebrate the first day of Hanukkah - and mourn the lives lost and changed by another antisemitic terrorist attack. As we reflect on resilience and rededication, the freedom to light a menorah in a park means more than ever.

Tonight, we gathered under the shadow of tragedy, but we did not gather in fear. As Jewish communities are attacked for living their faith openly, we chose visibility over silence and light over darkness. We will not hide, we will not shrink, and we are not going anywhere.
