This verse doesn’t give you a free pass to take what isn’t freely given, it commands mutual authority and mutual consent. Paul was elevating women’s sexual rights in a culture where they had none. Twisting it to justify coercion isn’t biblical, it’s abuse. You people wonder why.

This comment, and the responses beneath it reveal, quite profoundly, the extent to which critical thinking is sorely lacking among many Nigerians. At no point did her tweet promote or condemn virginity. She simply stated a truth: virginity is a social construct—and it always has.
Virginity is not a social construct. A virgin woman has no predisposed sexual baggage and trauma. Eliza, I’m sorry you gave your virginity to a chewing gum boyfriend that doesn’t make it a social construct. You socially gave your punani away and now you want to gaslight yourself.
