So Oksana has just arrived safely in Poznań, Poland after traveling 1,600km from her home in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Note, we’ve changed her name for safety. 17/18.

". We sighed in relief on the territory of Poland, they lent a helping hand to us, and they did it willingly and sincerely. Thank you so much to every single person for the humanitarian aid. I’m so grateful." 16/18.

"There were also problems with drinking water. Actually, at two stops, volunteers brought food, hot tea & a socket for recharging phones. And now, I really want to thank the volunteers, the military, the police & all the kind-hearted people who have shown strong support" 15/18.

"And our train stopped after 30 minutes in an open field and didn’t move for several hours – 5 trains had already overtaken us on [their] way to the border. And we had to wait. In short, it took us 17 hours to make a 2-hour journey from Lviv to the border." 14/18.

On the transfer to the border, things got worse. "Our train was delayed. The aisles were overcrowded; people sat on their bags. There were traffic jams in the aisles when people needed the toilet." She describes how people's frustrations grew, and some lost consciousness. 13/18.

"We needed a wheelchair for my mother, as it is very difficult for her to move around." – Oksana struggled to explain to the volunteers her mother's complex needs. 12/18

"They took out a 9-liter bucket of water for the whole carriage. We rode the hot, stuffy train without water. At 18h00, the conductor turned off the lights & closed the toilet until the morning." They had no choice & couldn't ask questions. 11/18.

"We sat uncomfortably on the train, with 10-12 people in each kupe. People were everywhere, in the aisles & corridors. A lot traveled with cats & dogs. We were on the road for almost a day. But we didn't know at what point we'd be safe. Or what to do once we got there." 10/18.
