Treat mentally uncomfortable things the same as physical exercise that makes you sore. Lean into pain.

Note to self: I am too comfortable if I can't tap into the realization here. 👇.
a helpful realization I had along the way ~ the only thing holding folks back was a fear of failure & humiliation. then I realized: I'd already failed & been humiliated, so I had nothing to lose, so I just started building anything. the more asinine & obtuse, the better.

A job that one feels compelled to keep for survival feels akin to slavery. Sure, there isn't a one-to-one mapping, but feeling compelled to wear yourself out for someone else's (ultimately unsustainable) growth just so you can eat and have shelter. feels bad.
Ever since I don’t have an employer dangling me a carrot or chasing me with a stick, I’ve become incapable of being productive unless I have a very strong reason to. Instead of fighting it, this has become my solution for good work-life balance.

Unstated assumption: "because I'm smarter than you, I do not fall victim to cognitive biases like you". High IQ does not imply a lack of fallacious reason in a person. Ergo, "I got into Google so I'm smarter than you so I'm right on unrelated subjects" is not necessarily true.

"Work hard at important stuff" advice is seems like survivorship bias. Founders fail. Even when they work on key items (audience building etc). Success is highly random. @dvassallo has a point with doing multiple small things to see what works/gets traction. Or as per xkcd:
It took me 16+ months to get from $0 to $5k MRR, 8 months to get $10k, 4 months to get $14k, and 1 month to get $21k MRR 🎉. My advice to indie-devs: Persistently build your product & audience. Hard work pays off 🚀

I believed this in my 20s, that anything was possible if you worked hard enough. I thought there was a formula or recipe to do everything. Now I am beginning to see how random life and success truly are. So small bets it is.
The idea that anything is possible if you work hard enough is a dangerous delusion. Life is more random than it seems, so act accordingly and think in bets.
